Description I hope no one takes this for disrespect. Both Spock and Nimoy were men of a curious mind, and death is the last mystery we all uncover. Beyond that, I'll let my art speak for me. Needless to say this tribute comes from a very personally important place within me.

Background by Ron Deviney.

It's DA. They prefer to add in endless stupid little features instead of having the system run properly

Thank you for this, Rob.
As with all of the fans around the world, I am grateful for his gifts as an actor and his portrayal of the character of Spock that will continue to be with us for all time, but I will still miss him.

I'm not sure he has any single "finest moment". Suffice to say he did the character justice, and well benefited from it.

that's beautiful, dear.
I did like a lot how Leonard Nimoy influenced and created and performed this role of his life.
Like he himself once said "I am Spock".
And that was a great being and role.

Few actors get to take on a role that is not only so well known, but has such great influence on a number of generations growing. As I'm fond of relating, Mr. Spock was the first vegetarian I knew!

Without the character of Spock Star Trek would never have been as successful. Without Nimoy as Spock the character would never have been as good. Considering all the spinoff series and movies, I think Nimoy is by himself responsible for a huge part of all that. I cant think of any other actor who is comparable.Β

I guess death spooks me less as the years go by. Not only does it's inevitability become more concrete, but as I lose more family and friends it becomes more a part of life. The LAST part, mind you, but still.

Some can't imagine not existing. Me - I'm still shocked that I DO exist!

Yeah, I'm not a believer in the "afterlife" - at least not in any sense expressed by the established world religions. But still - the experience of death answers the question, even if the answer is "full stop!"

Trystl In reply to RobCaswell [2015-03-02 23:38:43 +0000 UTC]

I think lifeΒ may beΒ analogous to the gingerbread man, if you're familiar with that fractal concept.
If not do a Youtube search and check out one of the many videos.
As the image zooms in, the fractal takes on an infinite variety of new and unique shapes
that look nothing like the full image. But if you move in the right direction, you can find a "complete"
new gingerbread man imbedded inside the whole.
I think deathΒ may beΒ like zooming in on the gingerbread man. It may not even vaguely resemble our
current understanding of reality and consciousness... but that information is still inherent in the whole,
so to speak. What that means, exactly I don't know. Reincarnation? Or transcending to something else
that may not even vaguely resemble our current reality.Β But I do believe that something continues. Β

RobCaswell In reply to Trystl [2015-03-03 17:06:01 +0000 UTC]

I've had many thoughts about death and consciousness, through the years. And I'm sure I'll have many more before The Big Dirt Nap. My current ponderings are regarding consciousness as a field that can be tapped into by the right vessel - namely DNA based life. It's an idea that Robert Lansa stops just short of proposing with his "Biocentrism" concept. I've also been following the development and testing of the Penrose-Hameroff hypothesis of a quantum-based consciousness (www.quantumconsciousness.org/ ) and wondering if the two ideas may be linked up. They're both way out there on the edge of theoretical science... but they don't cross the line into New Age mythology. But then my taking Lansa's work to the next step probably does....

Trystl In reply to RobCaswell [2015-03-03 21:04:50 +0000 UTC]

I'm interested in similar sorts of theories...
Have you looked into Rupert Sheldrake's Morphic Resonance theory?
I've found many of his ideas very interesting...
One of his ideas is that the "Morphic field" is sort of analogous to a radio that
picks up a signal from a station. His believe is that the DNA is not all that is necessary
to grow a body--human or otherwise--it's just part of the whole system.
On it's own, DNA might be like a radio without any radio signals.
A lot of his work also has to do with consciousness, asΒ SheldrakeΒ believe
consciousness is part of the morphic field in some fundamental way.

I'm also familiar with some of Penrose's work... but Lansa is new to me. I'll have to check it out.
