Ever considered making an Alternate-Timeline version of this?

Kudos for the fantastic image, Rob!
William Windom deserves every accolade for his superb performance as Matt Decker, but let's not forget Sol Kaplan's exquisite score. The music that accompanies Kirk's long wait to be beamed off the derelict heightens the tension to epic levels, but my favorite theme in the episode is the muted fanfare for the Constellation, which brilliantly conveys the tragic fate of the ship and the loss of her crew while still holding the essence of her former glory. It's a shame Kaplan only scored two episodes.

It really is one of Trek's best. Maybe that's one reason I knew my wife was "the one" when I met her. Her favorite episode was "Doomsday Machine" and her favorite characters were Scotty and Spock. In retrospect it's no wonder she ended up in I.T.!

Thanks. It's hard to go wrong with blue and orange. It's like chocolate and peanut butter.

Captain Decker (if I recall his name right) took advantage of his rank while Kirk was aboard the derelict ship, and went on the attack immediately. This episode was based on the Berserker Series of books.

Commodore Decker, if I remember correctly.Β There seemed to be an unusual number of Commodores commanding the Enterprise's sister ships...

This is a great piece.Β You know alot of folks complain about the remastered episodes, but I think it really helps bring this story up another notch. And who else could have given usΒ Matt Decker like Wiiliam Windom?

I think that it's that kind of 'help' Star Trek needs to bring in new fans. They really improved the look of the episodes- especially the space-based stories like "Doomsday Machine".

Still love this ship. The perspective on the Doomsday Machine really gives a sense of its size. Very nice.

Jeffries' ship design is certainly the essence of "classic SF".

Oh I agree, I also liked his performance in the Twilight Zone episode "Four Characters in Search of a Way Out" (too long of a title.)
