Description
Another throwback from the last century. It's Traveller image of a scientist doing "sciency things" (of just staring at his email...), worked in a profile view of a Lab Ship variant from the FASA Adventure Class Ships series of deckplans. I don't recall where this one was published... it's all a blur at this distance. Of note: the figure is sort/kind a self portrait, but with alien eyebrows bent on human domination.Related content

Love it. Never played the game but love the ships and still buy Traveller related stuff. Wonder about the game Renegade. The one with Anti-grav tank warfare. The one with the TOG Empire. Anything rings a bell. Also any pictures or diorama are welcome. And remember this was before battletech. Still the picture is lovely, it captures the human essence of "What is out there?"

I do have one TOG image in the gallery, if you go lookin'. Just looks for the B&W with anti-grav tanks on the 'splodin' battlefield.

Image published in Challenge Magazine, issue 29, page 29, as part of the article Scientist, by Willam Connors. This article dealt with extended character generation, like High Guard, for characters following a career as scientists. There is another of your illustrations on page 28, of a female scientist in the field, with a grav propeller robot assistant, collecting samples. As always with your work, they totally captures the feel of the game for me.

No problem. Looking at the side profile, it looks to me like the Explorer Class 800 ton Survey Cruiser from FASA Adventure Class Ships Vol II, the same one that your Alexandria Class Free Trader was published in. The difference from the W H Kieth image from that volume is that yours has an additional sensor boom or the like extending from the forward hull (kind of like the sensor boom on the sensor boom on the Survey Scout in the DGP World Builder's Handbook).

Yup! Exactly. I thought that Donosev boom was cool and worth stealing in order to spice up a rather squarish design.

Well... I'm sorry. But if you try wrapping your cranium in duct tape, it could at least contain/restrain the resulting mess??

I love these old black-and-white illustrations.
These sorts of illustrations --yours, those by Tom Peters and those by the sadly late Bryan Gibson-- were always one of the big selling points for me when I went to buy those RPG books, back in the day...

Thanks!
