SketchRantz 002 "Art Thieves Part 01: Stealing" - This weeks rant deals with thieving and all that implies. I'm starting with out in out stealing, seeing as how some of my art recently popped up on eBay for those in the know. I had someone show my art was being used as their own,which infumed me to no end. Thankfully my good friends here caught them red handed! Serves them right for sure,I got 30 years of drawing under my belt,and I'm not about to let some thief pull the rug under me.
And to make things worse,some hater and jealous mofo got my account---ยป "NinjaTurtleIggy" somehow got it suspended,when I absolutely done nothing to no one to deserve such treatment. I always mind my own business,and it's pretty sad that who ever they were,got no life and has to try and ruin mine and my TMNT legacy.
Now I got a new account "TMNTComicsArt"which I'm making my permanent account~

i found out today one such art thief has had all his listings taken down. a small victory but a satisfying one nonetheless.

As frustrating as the topic is, I think you have a rather moderate attitude towards the whole issue and that's a good thing in my eyes.
I've seen enough journals of artists, basically telling everybody "Art Thief right there - go bash them!!"
You make a lot of interesting points, especially about copying and/or adapting to other styles and your personal experiences.

Speaking of aspects, how do you feel about manga-scanlation sites, I wonder?
I mean, basically those guys are stealing the mangas and putting them up free to read, but the original intention (I think), was to give people the opportunity to enjoy mangas that are not published in their own country (or not outside of Japan at all) and they go through the efforts of doing fan-translations.
Usually, the scanlators also encourage people to buy the original manga soon as it gets published in their country to supposrt the artists.

Fanedits are something else entirely and I'm of many a mind about it, def the next SketchRant for sure. In many ways the fan community provides a more quality driven, accurate translation than the commercial product can provide, mostly because no company is going to spend $$$ to do it, and legal can cause so much trouble on the backend. Good point to bring up!

It's a real shame. I've had my art stolen and used on ebay, etsy, cafepress, and other similar sites so I know how you feel.
