Description
With the Soviet Union having collapsed and every last communist remnant being successfully annihilated, new states were formed from the corpse, that was once the largest threat endangering the still young German Empire. The new states of Moscovia and Siberia, were formed as mostly independent states (however still in the Empire's sphere of influence), while the other parts were generously distributed among the different peoples of the now deceased red empire. In the Far East, Germany planned to create something completely new, a German outpost in the far reaches of Asia, able to successfully control the competing forces of the now defeated, but quickly resurging Japanese Empire and the massive but corruption ridden new Chinese state. To further decrease the possibility of a conflict between the two parties, both were forced to relinquish large parts of their former territory, Japan as a consequence of losing the war, China as a result of a series of plebiscites (forcibly executed on behalf of Germany), leading to the creation of the new states of Mongolia, Tibet and Korea. Much of Manchuria however, as well as the Russian Far East, were left depopulated after the war, with much of the fighting in the later and especially bloody phases of the war taking place in this region and as a result large parts of the population left the region to flee south. Many Russians also returned to Europe after the GULAG-system was dismantled following the war. Germany therefore took ownership of the region in the aim of establishing a settlement colony to not only militarily secure the region, but also facilitate and strengthen trade links between the countries of the Far East and Europe. Germany started sending German colonists to repopulate the decimated cities as early as the late 1940's but soon had to consider allowing colonists from other parts of Europe to participate in the undertaking as well. Through a heavy focus on assimilation, much of the non-German European population, which mainly settled in the larger cities and along the trade routes north and south of Lake Baikal, were quickly Germanized, however in the more rural parts of the Protectorate, Russian and Mandarin remained the dominant language for some time. As the economy of the protectorate quickly picked up steam as trade between Europe and the East Asian nations increased exponentially, more people wanted to settle in the protectorate. Many of these later migrants also came from China, which still remained very much impoverished for a long time and produced many people desiring a better life in the lands up north. This new migration however exacerbated the already large problems between the old Chinese inhabitants and the new government, which heavy-handedly tried to assimilate them, leading to uprisings and a temporary stop of migration from China. As time went on, conflicts with China, which still saw large parts of the Protectorate as their national territory, became ever more frequent, especially after the former weak KMT government slowly gave rise to a significantly more chauvinistic, irredentist and authoritarian system. Relations between the Protectorate and Japan and Korea however continued to improve significantly, with many migrants from those countries assimilating without many issues. The fixed link between the Japanese Islands and mainland Eurasia, an engineering marvel at the time, helped to further deepen trade and cultural relations. In the year 2020, the protectorate boasts an impressive population of 81 Million, with most of the people living in the southern provinces in Manchuria. The people of the protectorate enjoy a high standard of living and remain deeply connected to their European fatherlands. This time of peace and prosperity however might soon come to an end as dark clouds are starting to form in the distant skies ...Since the map is in German, I thought I might provide some translation help:
