Description
I'm a 'wanabee' Star Wars artist - I've never had anything published - so I when I think up a new picture I try to make it something that's original and presents a new take on familiar characters while also demonstrating my artistic capabilities...For this piece I imagined what might happen if the Predator had showed up during Empire Strikes Back in that scene when Darth Vader's telling the assembled group of bounty hunters to go look for the Millennium Falcon. I thought this would be a good scene to add some 'drama' to - because in the movie all we see is the characters just standing there. And I thought of introducing the Predator to the scene as the 'ultimate' hunter among a bunch of amateurs!
The Predator went straight for Boba Fett - realizing that he's the most capable of the group that Vader assembled. And he's serving up Boba's head to Vader as if to say "I'm better than this guy!". The other bounty hunters are all taken by surprise and are only just reacting to what's happened... too late! I think Vader would have known the Predator was there so isn't phased - he's just saying "You're gonna have to clean that up now."
The tagline 'Predator kills the Star Wars universe' is a play on words from Marvel comics' 'Punisher kills the Marvel universe'.
This is an original depiction of copyright characters that I don't own. Star Wars belongs to George Lucas/Disney, and the Predator belongs to 20th Century Fox (I think). This is fan art and isn't for sale or reproduction. It was drawn in Photoshop using a Wacom pad and is a very low resolution version of the original.

If Vader it would hire his, I doubt that he will bring his victims alive.

Good point - and maybe Vader's saying: 'I'd give you more work if you didn't always have to kill everyone?!'

but Boba was Darth Vader's favorite!!! And yeah I think it would be a crazy fight between Bossk & Predator if all they had were their bare hands. (Bossk would probably loose cause he only has 3 fingers.)

I doubt Vader would have a 'favorite' - he'd just favor whoever could get the job done best? But yeah - a fight between Bossk and Predator would be brutal - and like you say probably a fight Bossk wouldn't win!

yeah just whatever bounty hunter does the job best no matter how many corpses he had to walk on to get the job done.

Hi Rhyme, You really did a great job here I love the bounty hunters being like "what the f*" and the triumphant pose of the predator. However, the cropping on the left side buzzes me a little bit. tell me your feeling about it

Thanks as always Igor. Interesting that you picked up on the cropping - I'll happily explain my thinking.
First - this image is based on a still picture we often see from the Empire Strikes Back of the bounty hunters. It's a standard shot - straight on and in the movie - the characters are all almost motionless... so it works as a way to introduce us to the characters but it has become very familiar.
So my intention was to create a version of that scene that was more dramatic and shocking to demonstrate my artistic abilities (and just because I thought it would be fun). So having the Predator take out Boba Fett is instantly shocking - and it's succeeded in creating debate (which I hoped it would) about whether or not that could or would happen.
To emphasize the unexpected nature of the image - I destabilized the viewpoint by setting at an angle. The focal point of the image is intended to be the Predator standing triumphant over his victim - everything and everyone else is essentially scenery. So Vader (and Bossk) are intentionally cropped as framing devices for the image. Cropping the characters like this is something you often see in comic panels to create the idea that the content of the image extends beyond the limits of where the 'camera' was pointed. And like I say - it's also meant to be slightly unsettling.
Everything in the scene was very carefully laid out - and you'll notice that the different arms or weapons frame each of the characters or draw the eye-line around the picture.
I hope that helps explain why this picture looks like it does. Thanks for asking such an interesting question - let me know what you think!

Thanks for such a rich answer my friend. It is always interesting to hear/read the
thinking process of an artist, and you've done a brilliant work with a great composition. However, I think I wouldn't have had the top of Vader's helmet cut off, but it is a very personal opinion

I doubt the scene could ever play out like this - Boba's no sucker - so this is just me kind of going for shock value really. I originally thought of just adding the Predator into the group of bounty hunters - as a way of saying 'wouldn't it be cool it Predators were in the Star Wars universe'... but that would have made for a boring picture so I thought that I needed to add something 'extra'!

Nice mate!
I can see the Predators fitting in nicely into the Star Wars universe and you have picked a very fitting scene to have one appear. Although I am sure the Boba fan boys might have something to say about this.
As per usual man, really digging your art. Really like how you have done the reactions of all the characters with all the bounty hunters showing a very apparent sense of shock as to what has just happened and both the Predator and Vader cool as cucumbers like it's no big deal.

Cheers Simon. Spot on with that mate... Boba fans not impressed with this I think! But that misses the point really - it's exactly because Boba's such a cool character that the idea of him being taken out 'just like that' has more impact!
And I wanted some way to inject some drama into the scene... if you remember the scene from Empire they really are all just standing there - completely motionless (Boba turns his head and Bossk leans a bit)! This way I could show that I can draw the characters in a way we haven't seen them before.

Haha, I know where you are coming from. I like what you've done here and I think you have nailed the impact you were going for.
I remember the scene you are talking about and I know whenever I watch the movie I always wanted to see more off/ from the assembled Bounty Hunters.

Gets his head lopped off just like his father? How sad. I guess there must be something in his genetic code that predisposes him to premature beheading.

Getting bits chopped off happens a lot in Star Wars - so I thought it'd be a fitting end! And at least it's better than falling into a tentacled stomach in the desert

I reckon they're a pretty arrogant bunch so I thought they'd be posturing like they could take the Predator down because they're embarrassed in front of Vader because they didn't even see the Predator coming!

I do like Fett - although I think they perhaps ruined the mystique about his character in the prequels. But I also think the Predator is one of the most fearsome sci-fi bad guys ever - at least if you ignore everything after Predator 2!
