Description
A pin up of Storm from the X-Men I did as part of my digital painting class. This was pencilled and inked traditionally and then digitally painted using Photoshop cs5. I was really inspired by Simone Bianchi's design for storm from Astonishing X-Men so I decided to draw it. This was a ton of fun and a real learning experience as far as digital painting goes.PS like my Facebook page here -> www.facebook.com/robertryansarβ¦

Those are both valid points, I learned a lot by doing this piece but there's always a million more things to learn and to figure out!

I love it. I love your take on this costume. Looks more wearable than the original with the chains on her hips keeping her pants together.
Overall; beautiful art.

Thank you very much! I can't take credit for the design of the costume, that was done by Simone Bianchi I believe, I just thought his costume was really beautiful and had to draw it!

i think the lightning blends better with the background and Storm now, it's not as disconnected anymore. definitely an improvement, the body was brilliantly done from the beginning and now the lightning doesn't break the flow of it all anymore, around her. i think it's definitely much better ^^ the upper lines could be cleaned up a bit more around their margins but the way you edited the thicker parts makes it easier to not focus on the little grungy ones behind and they seem to fit more together this way

umm... i hope you will take my criticism the right way and that i won't sound rude, i would hate that.. just trying to help...
um... the girl and background feel separated from the lighting.. like two different people drew this.. a very experienced painter who painted her and the clouds, with really great detailing and blending, lines, anatomy.. etc.. and a very terrible extreme beginner who just ruined the drawing with playful random cringy lightning.. i feel like i just caught someone who ripped someone else's drawing and ruined it with some lines to say to others that they made it on photobucket.. xD it's not a good feeling..
so, if you are the one who painted the gorgeous super-girl, i really hope you will complete the drawing by fixing the white lines... it's great other than that.. *respectfully submits critique, bows and runs to study torso muscles*

It definitely was me that did the art from start to finish. Never been accused of being a swiper before, I guess there's a first for everything! I have the line art that I pencilled and inked if you feel like you need proof haha. I am learning different techniques in photoshop and am relatively new to digital painting. I tried something new with the lightning so I'm sorry you feel that it looks like a terrible extreme beginner, I am trying to learn just like everybody else.

oh, no, lol, i didn't say you swiped anything, i said there was a big difference between the two parts and they FELT like they were made by two different people.. xD i meant the feeling only, not that it really was a stolen work, lol. i did really like the rest of the drawing very much and that's why i wanted to be honest with you to point out where you could improve, otherwise i wouldn't have bothered to comment.
i tried to be honest to help you improve, i did not mean to offend. i hoped you'd know you should focus on it because it's a shame to have them ruin your drawing at the end after a lot of good ton of detailing on the main part which is really awesome, especially if you're new with digital works. i only meant the lightning lines were.. wrong.. not the rest of the drawing. i insist on pointing that out, i loved the rest. like i said, anatomy was great, coloring of the character, pose, hair, even the clouds. the only thing that seems off is the lightning.
if i may, i suggest using the smudge tool at first, for the lightning, could help you get some really nice linear blending

I will definitely play around with the lightning some and try to make it look better. Luckily I have the lightning on seperate layers so I won't mess up the rest by changing it. I'm sorry if I seemed defensive. I honestly thought you were saying I took the image from someone else haha. I will reference some lightning and try to come up with something better.

no, no, i'm the one sorry i sounded rude, i felt the lightning did damage to the rest of your detailed work and i felt compelled to be honest so you can improve on it. i usually phrase my words more kindly but i was in a rush and i just phrased everything all wrong. my intention was purely to help with my critique by telling you how i felt after i'd noticed some of the short and unhelpful comments below. i don't mind short comments but even on my own works i appreciate helpful critiques more.
i really felt like the character work was exceptional and i think you will find it very easy to fix the lightning part. try to use smudging a bit, then about 3-5 layers of colors (blue, purple, light blue, light purple, darker tones, maybe some very light green as well in reflection, etc) and soft brushing for the reflection along the edges.
i really love your character anatomy and detailing, i can't wait to see it when you finish the lightning as well

I think it looks great!
However, I think a little more highlighting on the face might do some good. And something about the lighting seems a little off... I think it needs sharper, straighter lines, but that's more of a personal preference rather than a real critique.
P.S. You took a digital painting class? Cool!
