Holy... It will be hard to pretend to not be scared with that last panel. Will Genny trust her fox as much as Judy does with Nick?

I thought she had somewhere to be since her agent got her a reservation (page 2 ), or was she fibbing to 'escape' ace?
Nice color gradient on the text between the last two panels. Gennys increasing panic?
Why not from red to nighthowler-blue?
Or is my interpretation completely off the rails?

InTeLionsDen captured it nearly perfectly. If you re-read the first page you will notice a similiar gradient only in reverse, when Genny stops acting. She is about to get into the role here, when she is cut off by Ace's growling. (also the color change is only visible in the "thought bubbles" for a reason.)

As the actor Genny gets into character her text changes from red to violet to show she is now speaking/thinking like Judy would.
The text color for each mammal is based on their eye color.
- Judy: Violet
- Nick: Green
When the actors are in character their text changes to the color of the character they are playing.
- Genny: Red when not acting, Violet when playing Judy
- Ace: Yellow when not acting, Green when playing Nick
I didn't really notice this at first until you asked about the transition and then I could see how the color was being used. This is a very simple but effective way of showing whether the actors are speaking like themselves or the characters they are playing.

Hmm - so my idea is far from correct, yours seems better but there is a problem:
Gennys text in panel four "No Nick, fight it!" is red and not violet...
If your reasoning is correct that should be in character (violet) and the following color gradient needs to go from violet to red - Gennys own panic overriding her acting abilities.
I missed the gradient from violet to red on the first page, too. Otherwise I would've come up with another idea than Gennys increasing panic.

The text in panel four and the start of panel five is still red because she wasn't fully prepared for the run-through and she can't get into character instantly. Some actors might be able to turn on a character like turning on a light switch but some cannot. It probably depends a lot on how long they have been performing the character. Before filming a scene or during actual rehearsals she would have time to mentally prepare and be in-character for the opening line. In this case there was no preparation time so it was going to take a few seconds to get into her Judy character, hence the delay on the color change. She was just starting to get into it when Ace growled. We didn't see a gradual transition out of character because she stopped thinking immediately when Ace growled and looked at her as a savage fox. She probably lost it instantly in that moment.
It hasn't been mentioned yet but one could possibly argue that the "Growl" should have been green if Ace was fully acting as Nick being savage. I am okay with the yellow color because Ace was not really acting as Nick in this sequence. All he had to do was act savage. Also, this practice was just for the benefit of Genny so she could modify her roll in this scene. He was reciting action descriptions from the script to get the timing down and giving some Bellweather lines that were probably cue lines for Genny's lines and/or actions.
