I remember watching a few selected episodes of UFO Robot Grendizer when I was a kid, although I'm sure many of the names of the series were changed in the dub. It still stands out in my mind from when I was a kid for the interesting looking robot, the kickass flight suit the protagonist wore, and the unique design of the UFO craft Grendizer was a part of.

There are aspects of the design I really enjoy, but I do think it suffers from a lot of clutter in it's construction. There are a lot of pieces that don't make a lot of sense, and seem to be there less for any significant purpose and more just to set the design apart from Go Nagai's other creations like Getter Robo or Mazinger Z. I understand the need for color separation, but they seem to be there just to be there, rather than an interesting or practical purpose, and tend to jumble the design (The "spike" in the middle of the pelvis, for instance, or the "spikes" on Grendizer's gauntlets). And although I like the flight suit of Duke Fleed, it doesn't really match really well with the design of Grendizer. It doesn't feel like the pilot has a connection to the robot he is piloting.

Still, those are minor gripes, and this was a fun- if daunting- picture to draw.
