had a relation Killed in 1945 during a daylight op - not so nice - they ditched and were then strafed by FW190s and killed in the water - the event being witnessed by another aircrew in a ASR Warrick who had just dropped them an airborne lifeboat.
he has no resting place and only one of his crew were ever washed ashore, he was the only Australian on board.
his name was Ian and he flew with 617 RAF Sqd on lancasters, he was on his second tour and had over 70 ops to his name when killed, having been on ops from Jan 1944 with no rest.
his Father served in France in 1917,was wounded and died of those wounds after the first war,Ian was his only son.
Out of the 7 that enlisted in the second war with either the RAAF or RAN,6 were dead by 1945, the first two being killed in Nov 1941 on board HMAS Sydney (1 was RAN and the other was RAAF - Seaplane Pilot) and the last being Ian in Jan 1945.
there is more about them/him on my page.

Was actually a refreshing change to be able to do a Lancaster render in the day.
