Description In honor of Black History Month, here we have the long awaited addition to the gallery: George Marvin Stone, AKA Cube!!

After falling in love with, and marrying Cyborg, Variant was concerned as to whether she could still have children, given the severity of the accidents that made them half-robot.  Luckily, her husband reassured her otherwise.  Yet having children was one thing.  Actually raising them was a different matter entirely.  Much to their amazement, their son's DNA was the perfect merge of both Apokoliptian DNA, and organic material; so perfect, that hardly anyone could tell.  As young George grew up, and he began to access his abilities, he quickly found a surrogate extended family with the other Titans.  So, it was only natural that he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a hero.  While he was initially hesitant at the thought, Cyborg was convinced by Variant to let their son enroll in Titans Academy, so he could grow as a person, and form closer bonds with other teenage heroes, as well as his surrogate siblings.  Realizing some truth in his wife's words, Victor allowed his son to walk down the path he chose, and so did George Marvin Stone become Cube, finding his place as one of the Teen Titans!

So for Cube, I was initially planning to draw him two years back, but I suffered from a case of artist's block, and it was a while before I decided to draw him up. When I first heard about Cube in the Justice League comics, I was both shocked and excited about this boy's existence in the comics.  I just had to have him as one of the next generation of Teen Titans.  For his design, I wasn't too sure about whether or not to make him look like he appeared in the comics, as his costume was basically just a makeshift one.  However, then I discovered that one of his powers is shape-shifting, so I figured he could change his appearance at will.  The design I came up with was just something that came off the top of my head.  I was looking at inspiration from other artists who drew Cyborg, and I literally started with George Perez's design that he came up with when he and Marv Wolfman created The New Teen Titans.  I also looked at the style that Mike McKone came up with when he did the redesign for Geoff Johns' run on Teen Titans.  (For all the horrid writing Johns did with that series, I did actually like the redesign of the Wolfman/Perez Titans, and making Bart Allen the new Kid Flash).  The heterochromia is also an original concept I had in mind as well, along with the goggles, since he has to hide his identity somehow if he's not gonna use a mask.  As you all may have well likely guessed, he's a Titan Prodigy at Titans Academy, with his surrogate siblings including Nightstar, Impulse, Speedy and Jai West.  Aside from Nightstar, Speedy and Impulse, he is also close with Robin (Tim Drake), Wonder Girl (Cassie Sandsmark), Kid Flash (Bart Allen), and Static.

Disclaimer:  Cube belongs to D.C. Comics, Bryan Hitch and Fernando Pasarin.

He's amazing. The little details you gave him (the blue orbs on his shoulders ringed by blue dots; the pelvic curtain; and his hetrochromia) really make him stand out.

Thanks! The shoulder orbs and the breechcloth were actually part of his design in the comics, along with his headband. So I decided to incorporate those into his design. Though his relationship with Static got off to a rocky start. George initially believed that his father cared more about training Static than him, and was actually jealous of Virgil. All that changed after a fight with Ebon, after he managed to take advantage of Cyborg’s power cell dying. This forced Cube to put aside his jealousy of Static and work with him in order to defeat Ebon and free his father.

Thanks! I didn’t hear about him until last year, when I both read the storyline he debuted in, Justice League: Legacy, and did some more looking into him on the D.C. Comics Wiki. I was so excited at the thought of Cyborg having a son; I just had to add him to the Titan Prodigies! (That’s the term used at Titans Academy for students whose parents were among the original Teen Titans)
