Description
"Now I am become life, the creator of worlds!"Though she could perform magic on her own, thanks to her independent delving into Chinese magic, Shísānsuì never really was able to reach her potential until she began training under her mother, Guanyin, and it really kicked into high gear when she joined the Teen Titans. Traci was soon well aware, especially by training with Wonder Girl, that Chinese demigods were able to manifest their power by taking on new forms which matched their divine heritage. During the battle against the Reach off the coast of Japan, Traci was finally able to enter her peak form: Lotus Form. In this new form, she really is able to exploit the full use of her powers and abilities. At first she was so embarrassed of the fact that it meant she was using this form naked, but after spending time with some of the other girls at Titans Academy, such as Prysm, Cinder and Lightning, she grew to use this form more often in battle, and that proved especially useful against enemies such as the Fearsome Five.
So for Shísānsuì's Lotus Form, this was actually something discussed between me and a few months back, when I was still doing my Batman 80th Anniversary Special. It was initially based off the image of a female elder god meant for some Lovecraftian themed wepbage, but we agreed on replacing the western Zodiac symbols with the characters of the animals represented in the Chinese/Buddhist Zodiac. Now, some of my Chinese viewers will note that the characters on Shísānsuì's body aren't the proper ones used in Mandarin, this is because these are how each of the characters are used in Japanese. Also, there's a character missing, as many of you may point out. Don't worry, it's just hidden.
Disclaimer: Shísānsuì belongs to DC Comics, Geoff Johns & Pascal Ferry

Going with the jade colored skin really worked out for the better (if her skin was gold, she'd would look a little too similar to Jennifer Pierce/Lightning). Also, now that I can see the Zodiac symbol placement, they fit perfectly.

I was thinking the same thing, to be honest, and I also wanted to make sure no other characters were drawn in the same pose that she is now. I didn’t want to be recycling poses for different characters. I nearly caught myself doing that with Osiris. As I was drawing him, I realized that I was drawing him in the same pose I did for Hawkman. I placed the dragon character on her forehead, since in Buddhism, dragons represent heavenly wisdom. The character of Ox is on her chest to represent fertility, and so on. I figured the placement of the characters in Traci’s body would be significant.
Though, drawing a Chinese character really makes me want to do Grunge now. I think I already discussed how I planned to do him, did I?

I noticed the different placements of the symbols, and it works.
Yes, you did talk about doing Grunge. Are you planning to add him with the post-June lineup?

Possibly, but I found out that I’ll still be able to scan from my father’s printer during the renovations. So I could do Grunge on April 4th, the day of the Qingming Festival in China. I’ve even come up with a new backstory for him as well. I know he can come off as a bit of a doofus, having read the comics and watched the Gen13 movie, but I was also thinking of making him a tad badass, mainly since I was thinking that seeing Roxy being tortured would not only anger him, and cause his metahuman powers to activate, but also his soul would merge with that of his ancestor, Zhāng Fei, to the point that he would even wield Zhāng Fei’s signature polearm. I figured that the two shared similar personalities after reading Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Zhāng Fei is loud, known for being an ass and prone to gluttony, similar to Grunge. Though he was also a great warrior, devoted to his friends and family. I figured that showing a bit of Zhāng Fei’s personality in Grunge would make him a bit interesting. He’d still have his goofy personality that makes him so loveable, but he’d become a bit smarter, more determined in battle, and he’d also speak Chinese fluently.

That's a positive; still having access to a scanner.
I do like the idea of seeing Grunge out in April; having him up for a day that's revered in China is a good sentiment.

Indeed it is.
My thoughts exactly. I mean, he is half-Chinese, like Traci, so I figured it would be only fitting. I’ve been studying Chinese armor as well, specifically Han Dynasty armor, since Zhāng Fei lived during the late Han Dynasty. I thought about even giving him a sword to use as a sidearm, but only for him to use it against robotic enemies and monsters. The sword in question being the Jian sword. Right now, my next pieces are the Robin and Catwoman anniversary pieces.
