Description
Here he is, the winner of the Memorial Day Special: Deathstroke the Terminator!Slade Joseph Wilson was always unable to escape violence. At age 16, he lied about his age and got himself enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving a stint first in Korea, and advancing to the rank of Major, before, like the many new draftees, being sent to fight in the Vietnam War. His experiences in the field there gave him an intense hatred of Communists, but it was during that time he met his first love, fellow officer Adeline Kane. He proved the best soldier the U.S. Army had, and was promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was so adept at mastering guerilla warfare, and then he even volunteered to be the first test subject for a serum designed so that soldiers were more resistant to truth serums. The experiment was a failure, Slade fell into a coma, but when he awoke, he was now able to utilize 90% of his brain, and his strength, agility and durability were all enhanced to superhuman levels. Slade ended up relieved from the army, but desperate for work. He took to big game hunting, as well as becoming a mercenary and an assassin for hire. The media called him, "Deathstroke!"
Whilst on a mission to rescue Chinese general Yao-Fei from Starfish Island, Slade met and became the ally and mentor of a young Oliver Queen, teaching the shipwrecked billionaire how to fight and survive. Later, after a fatal accident, the effects of the serum in his bloodstream mutated, Slade turned against Oliver for choosing his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Lance over Yao Fei. Although he was presumably killed by a wound to the chest, Slade survived a climactic battle aboard his ship, the Vertigo, and was taken in by the League of Assassins. Ra's Al-Ghul trained him to succeed him, even promising the hand of his daughter, Talia. Yet Deathstroke proved too violent and rash, and was expelled from the League. Vowing revenge, Slade then resumed a new war against Oliver Queen, now Green Arrow. Yet when he tracked Black Canary down to Gotham City in order to draw G.A. out, he fought and was defeated by Dick Grayson, AKA Robin, who even stabbed a birdarang into his right eye. Impressed by Batman's protege, but angered that a teenage boy was able to beat him, Deathstroke soon ended up developing an eternal vendetta against the Teen Titans.
For Deathstroke's design, I was going for a mix between the Teen Titans animated series, and his appearance in the original comics in the 80's. Now, it was also really fun designing his weapons. On his back, is the M16 Rifle, which is the standard issued weapon for the U.S. Armed Forces since 1964. In his left hand, the sidearm of choice he uses is the IMI Desert Eagle, he has two of them on his thigh holsters. The sword he uses is the falchion. For those of you unaware, the falchion was a curved, single handed sword used in Medieval Europe and the Renaissance, it was popular among archers and infantry. He has more, I just couldn't include them all. I also was inspired by the film, Son of Batman, for having Dick gouge out his right eye, since it would make more sense for him to have a grudge against Dick and the Titans that way, because he was defeated by Dick. Hence, why he would later be hired time and again to kill the Titans. Two of Deathstroke's children, his son Joe and his daughter, Rose, ended up joining the Titans, and he even became the father in-law of Kole Weathers, after she married Joey.
Disclaimer: Deathstroke belongs to DC Comics, Marv Wolfman & George Pérez.

Well, that’s your opinion. I just felt he would need a reason for wanting to hate Dick Grayson. I actually like the fact that Son of Batman had Damian gouge out Slade’s eye. Yes, he was treated poorly in Son of Batman, but the producers made up for it in Teen Titans: The Judas Contract.

Oh, there’s no question, Slade was able to beat Green Arrow in multiple fights prior to his fight with Dick. That time, he was just taken by surprise; caught off guard. In short: he got a bit cocky. Also, it wasn’t treated as a major victory. It was just a fluke in Slade’s eyes, as for the majority of the fight, he was constantly keeping Robin on his toes. In other words? Slade’s first fight against Dick Grayson wasn’t a loss, it was a draw.

Green Arrow, Black Canary and Speedy assumed it was a win for Robin, Slade and Dick didn’t see it as such. It’s like when Batman first encountered the League of Assassins. That was a stalemate as well. Even Bruce and Selina knew that Slade’s feud with Dick was far from a victory.

Thanks! What do you think of the weapons design, and his backstory I gave for him? I liked how Arrow portrayed him as an ally turned enemy of Green Arrow, but I wanted to bring the character back to his roots as an enemy of the Teen Titans.

I’m glad you think so. The Falchion being his sword of choice I actually got off a video made by Shadiversity. (That’s his YouTube username). What he said was that the Falchion should be the type of sword Deadpool uses, and since Deadpool is a rip-off of Deathstroke, it only made sense logically to apply that to Slade as well.

Well, the guy is pretty much a mercenary fusion of Batman and Captain America. That makes for a very cool antagonist.

He’s actually more of a more badass version of Deadpool, who was actually based off of Deathstroke. He just doesn’t talk his mouth off, and is a father. He also has a bit of a rivalry with Deadshot.

True that.
Again, he's a Super Soldier, like Captain America, and he's also a strategist that researches on his targets to exploit their weaknesses, like Batman.

Yep. Though the guy can use 90% of his brain. He’s practically immortal. That is exactly how he was able to plan his gambit: The Judas Contract, even though it failed. Nevertheless, he’s not the world’s deadliest assassin for nothing.

Yep! Though my take on him never was part of the Suicide Squad, he did instigate a coup of the League of Assassins. That said, Deathstroke prefers for his firearm of choice the M16 Rifle. When Slade was a soldier in Vietnam, that was the weapon he became most comfortable with. He got his sword when he joined the League of Assassins, along with a buckler and a collapsible spear. In the comics he had an “energy lance” but I wanted to have him be more realistic. The buckler though is a small shield used during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. In Tudor England, it was part of the fashionable kit of dueling. What did you think about him being Kole’s father in-law?

Poor Kole; seriously.
Having him as an in-law can't be easy at all.

Well, it is complicated. Slade trusted Kole with giving Jericho the love and support he never could. However when Jericho died, in part because he was possessed by Trigon, Deathstroke blamed the Titans for his son’s death.

Of course. Though my take on him really wants revenge against the Titans after he lost a fight with Dick Grayson when he was still Robin. Robin even gouged our his right eye in the process. Slade was caught off guard and wanted to break Robin. And so Deathstroke planned and plotted until he unleashed his gambit: The Judas Contract. Though his grudge soon developed against the other Titans as well.

Yeah, it definitely is. Also, if you’ll recall in Arrow, he had a partner in ASIS named Billy Wintergreen, right? Well, for this take, like in the comics, Wintergreen is actually a former major in the British Army during WWII, as well as Slade’s personal butler. A close friend of Alfred Pennyworth during the war, he respected Alfred’s decision to be a butler to the Wayne’s, just as he ended up becoming Slade’s butler and confidant.

Exactly. That's another reason why I compare Slade to Batman; he had his own 'Alfred'.
Funny enough, Alfred is considered Batman's 'Batman', a soldier that attends his commander's every need, in and out the battle field.

That’s definitely true. Although he isn’t the only one Batman can rely on. He’s also got Catwoman, Oracle (I grew up with Barbara still being paralyzed in the comics), Huntress, occasionally Black Canary (when she’s not helping Green Arrow), Superman, Red Hood, Robin (either Tim or Damian), and, if he has time, Nightwing. Although Dick and Jason may be harder to contact, since Jason has his own duties with the Outlaws, and Dick? He’s got Blüdhaven to look after as well as duties leading the Titans. Still, he could also just be having a little fun with Starfire, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, good points. Still, with all of them, Batman always keeps a 'superiority' position, while Alfred can actually lecture Bruce when he goes too far.

Not to mention that Alfred usually gets in very good terms with all of Bruce's "colleagues". Pretty much all the Justice Leaguers appreciate him a lot.

Of course! I remember the time where he even safely did surgery on Superman to remove a shard of Kryptonite and even mended his shirt and cape. This was after Metallo shot him. Lex Luthor was President in the comics at the time.

Thanks! I definitely agree with you there. The cool thing about Deathstroke was that when I was drawing him, I had so much fun drawing the body armor and the weapons. He was one of the initial villains I wanted to draw since day one, but never got around to giving him a truly honorable picture until today. Fun fact, though, the reason I gave him a falchion instead of a katana, was because of a YouTube video posted by Shadiversity saying that is also the sword that Deadpool should use. So I figured, since Deadpool's just a ripoff of Deathstroke, that Slade himself should use that same type of weapon as well. Though I am now almost tempted to draw Deadshot.
