Description
Up next for the March of the Titans event: Rosabelle Menendez, AKA Pantha!Pantha was introduced in the 90s Titans Hunt story arc as a genetic experiment by The Wildebeest Society, but later joined the Titans. She was killed during Infinite Crisis by Superboy Prime and brought back as a Black Lantern during the Blackest Night crossover as a zombie. However, her most memorable appearance, for me was in the Teen Titans animated series, where she was depicted as a Mexican masked wrestler. Using elements from both the comics and the cartoon, I was able to draw her out. Taking inspiration from an episode of Batman: The Animated Series, here is the backstory to this iteration of the character.
This iteration of Pantha is a famed teenage wrestler diva in the West Coast, born and raised in Oaxaca, and Donna Troy was an absolute fan of her's. However, she was captured and abducted by an ape-man working under a madman, Dr. Emil Dorian. Given her wrestling monicker and costume was cat motiffed, and Emil Dorian had an obsession for cats, he wanted to turn Pantha into the ideal mate for his cat/human hybrid creation, Tygrus. As a result, Rosabelle was turned into a human/cat hybrid with long auburn hair and a tail. Dorian's attempt nearly succeeded, but the Titans managed to intervene and rescue Pantha from being brainwashed. Realizing the affects were permanent, and she'd no longer be able to wrestle again, she was given a place among the Titans. Now she is a full on member of the Titans, residing in South Africa with Red Star, who is now her lover, and their surrogate child, Baby Wildebeest.
Pantha's appearance was also inspired by the anime, "Wanna Be the Strongest in the World!" The main antagonist of the series was a female wrestler named Blue Panther, who had a cat themed costume. I just gave Pantha a similar look, albeit with realistic cat ears and a tail as well as claws.
Disclaimer: Pantha belongs to DC Comics, Marv Wolfman and Tom Grummett
