ur too kind... the best way to explain what i do, is to watch video of how in 3d their use a lattice deformer to squash and push around the volume and form.. that what i do with those basic shape.. squeeze and scale and skew the volumes of the character... i just do it in my head .. but its the same principle..

hopefully this video helps explain it... turn the audio off.. its about what the volume is doing in space.. he is talking 3d junk so dont listen to that..lol

A lattice deformer, that's a great idea! Because then you squash and stretch your character but still keep the proportions to some degree, right?

yes thats the idea... lattice deformers dont guarantee volume but u get the idea of squash and pull out forms

thanks for saying and asking... once an artist understand the basic shapes of the human form.. they can put them in weird extreme positions..

Do you have a trick for drawing muscles that are not always clearly visible btw? like the inside of the legs or the arms, the armpit or the elbows are very confusing sometimes and you can't really get good references. Sometimes it gets me really mad when I try to construct them. Do you have any trick you could share on this? hope you don't mind me asking that too

ah u have to study the skeleton first... then each muscle find out where it attaches to the skeleton ... no trick just lots of anatomy books and drawings to figure out every muscle u can... the deeper your well the better... google will be your friend.. then u can appyl that research on to picture of bodybuilders.. in my gallery i have a few anatomy studies.. again.. dont short cut ur learning by looking at my drawings.. there is alot of study behind me doing those anatomy study(special muscle insertion into bones)... get familiar with what ever u want to draw.. dog cats lions car ..u name it study

Yesssssss....master space and placing volume in correct so as to be able to draw the muscles correctly...
