Description This was for the SDJ over on [link]

The topic was theatre and I figured I'd go all out and do a Roman Amphitheatre... I think this still counts?!

even though this was a long speedpaint timed one at 90 mins, it still wasn't enought time to get all of it done to a degree I'd be happy with.. turns out epic Roman structures are hard to paint.. I need practice!

Nice idea, I just thought of the other kind Good layering of ground too, and seating us as one of the masses. Architecture in general tends to be my downfall By the way, did you know that the Romans painted their statues? When we see the statues and reliefs from that time we see the white and sandy remains and imagine white and sandy cities to match, but they were actually very colourful. Which is a roundabout way to say that a shot of red would look lovely in this painting

Thanks

Yeah architecture is really hard.. perspective on structures and their details is hard enough, but then add in the lighting and it starts making my head hurt!!

I didn't know they painted their statues! I knew they had lots of nice colours in their cities, with painted patterns and murals on walls and I wanted to do some nice canopies or some paintings on the walls of the theatre to add some more colour... I just didn't have time!

Thanks for the comment

You're very welcome. I collect historical facts of all sorts. Only once in a blue moon do I actually get to use any of it There's very few statues from that time left with traces of the original paint, but with ultra violet light they have checked the now marble white ones and seen that they were indeed once covered in paint.
