Description
Now, I know I promised a lot of sketches, but I really didn't want to show all the doodles that brought this idea about. Tons and tons of little scribbles that I considered a waste of your time to see.Anyway, as you may have guessed, I don't just do cute illustration work. I come from a family with a very deep carpenter background, and my mind likes to tinker with concepts a lot.
One of those concepts is "what can I make that better suites my artistic studio needs?". Well, I present to you a simple idea for the ultimate in illustration and graphic design art studio furniture. I call it "The P". Mainly because it's shaped like a sort of "P" or even a "D". Either way, it's my creative solution to wanting to keep everything within a turn of the ol' swivel chair.

It's an idea I think most of us have worked on a little in our heads and few of us have found a viable solution. lol. I still have to use my bed for layouts too.

I lay my folder on the bed, use the ghetto table for my art. Thing is my chair prevents it from coming close cuz it's wide, Soooo, had to buy and art board and 'lean' my art to me lol

Lol. Those tough days without a drawing table... How I do NOT miss those days. If you lived near Michigan, I'd let you have my old drawing table. lol.

Aww, you're so kind. I just don't have room for it. My room is like 10 feet by 17 maybe or less. It's not that big lol

Is this something you are going to try to create or just brainstorming?

Just brain storming at the moment. It would be a pretty big thing to build.

All I can think looking at that is how trapped I would feel inside a circle lol.

Heh, I wondered about that a little as well, but my favorite setups in my room have been pretty tight working areas. Plus, this would allow me to look over the rest of my room while at my drawing table or computer, so maybe a little less suffocating. But if this thing were to barely fit a room... yeah... not sure it would feel all that inviting...

Yeah. That's definitely not a design for you then. Lol. How is your home studio setup now? mine looks like a stockpile of confusion. lol.

Ah... you don't want to see it lol. I live and work in a 9x11 foot room.... and its so cramped in here when my comics decided to avalanche one day I couldn't sit at my desk to ink for like a week because I had nowhere to put them. I've since managed to straighten things up a little bit so I can get to my chair again lol. And anytime I have to leave the room to get something, I have to climb over the bed.

Totally understandable. When I lived in NYC I had a room that was about the same size as yours... smaller actually. Barely had enough room for my bed, a dresser and my drawing table. Everything was stacked on top of each other. So glad to have a big room again. But sadly, after taking measurements tonight, it would be quite tiny if I built this studio desk monstrosity. lol.

Sadly my drawing table is in storage downstairs I use a kohinoor drawing board that sits in my lap lol. When I went to stay with Mikey this past summer we moved everything into the living room (drawing table, mac etc) so that we had space for an actual workstation and more air circulation (the humidity was killer). So half the living room was set up lol.
