Dr. Jekyll had disguised himself as the Ghost of Mr. Hyde in order to steal jewels. He had concocted a lie where he was attempting to create a vitamin formula that would only need to be taken once in one's life, but it went awry, turning him into the ghost like his great-grandfather, the original Dr. Jekyll, had turned into Mr. Hyde. To escape the authorities after one theft, he hid in the Mystery Machine and ended up scaring the gang out. He escaped through the swamp and the gang followed him to Jekyll's house. They fell through a trap door and met Jekyll who told them the fake story, though the mud on his shoes was dry. During the investigation, the gang had found false clues left by Jekyll that would point to his maid, Helga, as the identity of the ghost, since she was a retired circus performer. However, he made a mistake by leaving suction cups in the fruit bowl which Shaggy found. The teen was then captured by Mr. Hyde, who planned to turn him into a frog, but Scooby saved him. The gang then set a trap for him, with Fred, Daphne, and Velma dressing up as duplicates of Mr. Hyde to scare him, eventually making him fall into the trap door and onto a mattress, which Shaggy and Scooby wrapped him up in, allowing the gang to unmask Jekyll as the ghost. He had used the suction cups to scale the building he robbed. Helga, having expertise in acrobatics, wouldn't need them, therefore ousting him as the culprit!
