Description ...Without a doubt, my favorite childhood 'escape to some wierd world' book...

And i am a huge dork because that escape was all about words and learning, wasn't it!? DORKTASTIC!

Anyway, ooooold art from last year. i finally found it sitting on a dusty CD. It was intended as the cover for a series of drawings illustrating the book....i did them as a project in my Illustration class.

The -only- art class here at good ole UNT that i really enjoyed.

If Vernon Fisher ever catches wind of this, i want him to burn in hell. Him and his goddamned Ron Perlman ape eyebrows and his high falutin postmodern art...

Yeah...i'm a bit bitter...*seethe*

anyroad, enjoy!

P.S That watchdog looks like my Hee-Haw dog.

Come on and

Ease on down, ease on down the road
Come on, ease on down
Ease on down the road
Don't you carry nothing
That might be a load
Come on, ease on down
Ease on down the road

Come on, ease on down, ease on down the road
Come on, ease on down, ease on down the road
Don't you carry nothing
That might be a load
Come on, ease on down, ease on down, down the road

Pick your left foot up
When your right foot's down
Come on lets keep movin'
Don't you lose no ground
You just keep on keepin'
On the road that you choose
Don't you give up walkin'
'Cause you gave up shoes, no

Ease on down, ease on down the road
Come on, ease on down
Ease on down the road
Don't you carry nothing
That might be a load
Come on, ease on down
Ease on down the road

'Cause there maybe times
When you think you lost your mind
And the steps you're takin'
Leave you three, four steps behind
But the road you're walking
Might be long sometimes
You just keep on steppin'
And you'll just be fine, yeah

Ease on down, ease on down the road
Come on, ease on down
Ease on down the road
Don't you carry nothing
That might be a load
Come on, ease on down
Ease on down the road

Well there maybe times
When you wish you wasn't born
And you wake one morning
Just to find your courage gone
But just know that feeling
Only last a little while
You stick with us
And we'll show you how to smile, yeah

Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down
Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down
Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down
Get 'em up, get 'em up ease on down the road

Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down
Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down
Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down
Get 'em up, get 'em up ease on down the road

Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down
Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down
Get 'em up, goin' down, ease on down
Get 'em up, get 'em up ease on down the road

The Phantom Tollbooth was a lot of fun. Easily one of my favorite books from when I was younger - up there with Narnia and Heinlein.

holy crap I read the Phantom Tollbooth more times that I can count when I was a wee lass. Of course I also grew up in a house with only educational programing and cartoons and had more books than I had friends (and you said YOU were dorktastic?).

my favorite escape from the world books were the Lioness Rampant series, Dragonmilk, and Animorphes (hides) ah, the solitude of the reading nerd.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Robotess In reply to Harmony-Jade [2004-11-21 08:32:49 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like me man...books were the BEST! they didn't stink, didn't break my stuff, didn't eat my food...damn...*looks over at roomate*

i should have more books....*musing*

heehee...did you watch alot of nature documentaries by......David Attenborough? he was the man....i can still hear him...calling....calling....calling...*s nicker*

hmmm...Dragonmilk...that sounds reaaaaally familiar....reading nerds are the best kind...we tend to be quiet and only speak when someone mentions a title we think we remember reading....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Harmony-Jade In reply to Robotess [2004-11-22 02:06:24 +0000 UTC]

David Attenborough rocks my socks. ROCKS THEM.

and as for Dragonmilk, it was about some chick trying to get these baby dragons back to their family after their mum and dad were slaughtered. It was pretty cool and was surprising deep and sad now that I think about it.

I also loved Wizard of Earthsea and the Merlin books. I was a sucker for dragons and magicy adventure I was.

I wish I lived around more book nerds. all the kids I knew said reading made their heads hurt. *~_~!*

Ah, now this takes me back... I hardly see any art dedicated to this subject. In fact--... I can't say I ever really have, and that's why I love it! I'm the one who used to watch the Chuck Jones version of this old story far more than I had ever read the book, though I have to admit what with translation from story to screen they were both still pretty crazy. *g*

I just utterly adore how you did the watchdog, the face is just -perfect-. Such a nice tribute to such an insane story since Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... Oh, and do beware the doldrums, would you? We're overpopulated here as it is. ^_^

*laughs* naaw dude...the doldrums can ALWAYs use more people...

we got lots of nothing to do here!

kweeheee....^_^ the cartoon was great man...chuck jones can haunt me in my sleep...his art was always so...wicked? i dunno...but it was awesome! bah! you like the watchdoggie? hee...he's modled off of my own dog...ringer ears and all...ok, not really...but you can dig the artistic liberties, ne? ^_^ thank you so much ^_^!

Awww, this is adorable! Very crazy and cartoony, but with menacing shadows in the background... Shades of Vasquez there, but only teeny slight ones... ^^ I like the kid, he looks so farkin happy!

Can't comment any further than that because ... uuuhhh ... that's one of the few bookd I didn't read... I'd skipped a lot of kids' books and by the time I was in fourth grade I was reading Tolkien and by the time I was in sixth I was reading Douglas Adams.....
