Description i've always thought of the idea of 'lace,' real or imagined, to be a staggeringly interesting part of who people are and how they identify themselves.
after spending saturday tubing down the rapids in the elora gorge i went to my friend terry's to drink and listen to the 'you forgot it in people' album. a conversation got started up comparing that album to a landscape, and it all seemed to make genuine sense.
it wasn't until later that night when i walked into terry's room and saw on his wall a group of maps; british columbia, cuba, where terry spent half of the last year, and southern ontario, where nearly all of us have spent nearly all of our lives.
the maps sort of serve as the strangest clues into who terry is. it is possible to hear him speak of a location or see it in photographs but the experience is always lost on anyone who was not there in the moment. to me maps excentuate this aspect of experience in a big way. they have an amazing ability for capturing my imagination and recalling every twist of a river's run. elora gorge is on the map, but the way that it can suck you under and bash you between its rocks is not.
saturday was a good day.

that was far too long an explaination for a not-so-worthy drawing

i like the idea in your description , it reminds me of this idea i saw in a lynch movie where a guy says something like :i don`t like taping special moments of my life with a video camera , i like to remember them how i remember them not they way they actually happened.
nice colors in the drawing too,not much the drawing itself you have better stuff in your gallery(srry if i`m to blunt saying that).anyway cheers

HAAAAAAAAAA!!

that is terry! of course it is terry!
he is tall and wearing a small red t-shirt!
you forgot it in people was a great clue, but looking at the drawing and seeing the map of cuba and southern ontario i immediately thought of terry.
upon reading your description i think you have done a splendiferous job of picking up on and accentuating the small details that give insight into who terry really is. and let's be honest. terry is a fucking baller.

but you my friend, you are the man.
A+

"I wish I was little bit taller,
I wish I was a baller
I wish I had a girl who looked good
I would call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat
and a '64 Impala"

Maps on the wall of places one has visited... what an interesting idea!

I love the colour scheme here It's very map-like.

(Huzzah, you put Australia on there! I think I can see where you tried to write Brisbane - that's me )

o hay i can almost see my house.

this is awesome. the idea behind it, what you wrote, how you drew it, that you included your album map. i like the structure of maps, & how they're like a pattern, except not... which makes no sense, but sue me. nice colour choice too. i also like how maps are coloured, & i like when they're dull in colour, strange since i'm fond of bright things.

blabbering. nice work.

thanks, i played around with the colours quite a bit and even though terry's hair is brown those colours were really working for me. i'm glad hat you liked them too.
and of course you can almost see your house, after ontario scotland had to be in there, the whole 'lace' thing creeping up again.

You know, if this was a print, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one and pin it to my wall beside my maps.

Honestly, this is just perfect, and the explanation only makes it better.

That drawing is completely worthy of that lengthy explanation.

i always feel like writing lots is a waste of time on deviantart because for the most part people don't really care about your intent or decisions or much of what's meaningful. but i suppose if anyone reads that far they're not of that opinion anyway.
thanks for taking the time

That is cool, I can't really find any other words to say at this point other than I kind of know where your comeing from in this explaination.
