Description
This is loosely based on a drawing I made back in 2002 named "Before I Lose Everything", after a song from the now disbanded Mighty Man and Yuk. But instead of making the same thing, I gave it a bit of a happier tone. Here's the link for the old piece: [link]The smoke bubbles idea was taken from that time back in 2002 when one of my friends thought that she could make everyone in our group quit smoking by giving everyone a bubble maker. (She followed the logic that we'd be too preoccupied to light a cigarette while we were busy making bubbles.) A few moments later, one of us lit a cigarette and blew smoke into some bubbles. They looked so nice, everyone else lit up and no one was able to quit smoking.

the mood is really awesome - it looks like something i would love to do. just chill on a roof and blow smoke bubbles. I love the little cat, hes absolutely adorable looking. The overtone of color makes the diffence i think in this picture, make it look all happy-go-lucky. Awesome work^_^

I love the mood of this picture! You can just feel the warmth of the night, rising up from the lights down in the street. And the contrast of reds and blues is very heartwarming.

Very similar to what I was trying to achieve in my latest print. ; ) Which isn't up here, but I'l try and remember to link it when it is. Such glorious mood. The colors are lovely, and so weird, but the mood is what makes this successful.

I love your use of color and texture. The shading on the girl's shirt turned out particularly well. But really, the whole piece just comes together very nicely. The background is detailed and complex without becoming really 'busy', I love the sort of whimsical feeling that the smoke and the stars give to the piece. The seriousness and structure of the buildings and the fire escapes give way to the curvy, fanciful effect of the sky. Really great. My only sort of criticism is that the fire escapes at the bottom left and the lanterns sort of draw your eye down and off the page from the main focus. But other than that, it's all kudos from me.
Oh, and I didn't actually know that this was a DD, but congrats on that, as well. I sort of just wandered here from =guava 's page after I saw her featured in some other deviant's journal. But yes. I am absolutely going to watch you now.

Nope. It was based on my 2002 piece, as I've said.
But you're not far off. City Escape by Rozefire was one of my faves and it pretty much reminded me to do this remake.

I watched my brother do the smoke bubble thing... It works best with those little old bubble pipes. Or bubble kazoos. Your picture's a beaut.
