Someday a child might ask-
"Mommy, what is war?"
And his mother might have to stop and think
Because she can't remember exactly
She'll say-
"It was an awful thing,
And everybody was fighting."
Maybe the child will ask-
"But we don't do it anymore?"
And she'll reply- "No, not anymore."

Someday a child might ask-
"Daddy, what's racism?"
And her father will have to look it up
In the dictionary
"It was when people hated each other
Because of the color of their skin.
And then maybe his daughter will ask-
"Why would it make any difference?"
And he'll say he doesn't know

Someday a child might ask-
"Grandma, what is poverty? What is hate?"
And a sad look will pass through
Her grandmother's eyes,
And she'll say to her granddaughter-
"You're better off not knowing."
