I like to see one of the soldiers on the city wall pushing the ladder away when the enemy has just made it to the top. That would give it some drama as well as some humor...
Well, it seems the one in the background was just enough smart to do that, and the idea the ladder is falling over a burning hut is a nice addition. Even better, if he pushed the ladder sideways, each ladder would have pulled down the one next to it, like in a domino masterpiece.
