Description Lately I've been making a bigger effort to learn more about animation.  I got a copy of the Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams and have been reading it every night as well as doing my own exercises.  I got this Steven run from the opening credits, slowed it down frame by frame and drew it out with pencil.  The red lines show where the joints connect.

I've always wanted to try animation and learn more about it, but I never really have the time. Sucks.

Being an animator is my greatest dream, that's why I make time for it.

That's awesome! I just wish I could learn to animate, but I don't really see a future where I'd do it for a living. I'm actually more interested in voice-acting.

You should practice that then.  Find cartoons or TV shows that you like, remove the sound and try dubbing them yourself.  I'm not sure if you'll be able to upload them here on dA, but you can make a youtube channel or something like that.  That way you get to practice your voice acting

I've been thinking of doing that for some time now, and I've finally decided to put video games aside for a while and save some money for a mic, or a headset at least. Even though there are so many good games coming out and ones I've yet to play.

I agree.  I think you should get that head set, however if you can't, you can still do it even if you don't have the equipment (with phone of something).  What's important is that you're practicing

Indeed! And I sort of practice daily. You see, most people in Finland don't speak that much English, whereas I mostly speak English (with my friends)...and in the process do impressipns and such. Luckily everyone's gotten used to it by now.

That's great!  Keep that up.

On youtube there are videos on how to do different accents. This might me able to help you.  Also, I went to a panel one time that interviewed Matsumoto Reika (the Japanese voice of Ash from Pokemon).  She said, to be a voice actor you first have to be able to act.  It sounds obvious, but a lot of people don't realise it.  So if you can take acting lessons where you are, they could help you become a better voice actor too.

Very true. I've watched many recording sessions of voice acting from many animated movies and you can really see that it's not just talking in front of a mike. My favourite example is Jack Black as the voice of Po from Kung-fu Panda. If you know how Jack Black acts, which is very energetic, it's exactly the same when he voice acts. And to be honest, whenever I do an impression, I can't help but make some sort of movement; it's literally impossible to stay still. Doesn't feel natural, I guess.

And holy shit, thank you for this playlist! *_*

I've seen videos too of actors physically acting in the recording booths.  I guess, the energy you give has to be powerful and real enough that it carries through the microphone.

You're welcome.  I think he's a great teacher.  Easy to understand.

Ooh, that's really cool! I like the joints done in red. It makes it easy to see the anatomy.
