Description
It may not be cool to admit it, but I actually really enjoy the live action Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Not that I'm saying it's a great film. Call it a guilty pleasure. I was certainly surprised by that. For over a decade, I had virtually zero interest in seeing the movie. My attitude was probably the same as a lot of people's: Does this short children's book really need to be turned into an overblown, nearly two hour production with people wearing freakish latex noses and Jim Carrey mugging for the camera? The animated special is an iconic adaptation (probably the only really memorable thing Chuck Jones produced post-Looney Tunes). Why mess with with the classics? Et cetera. But then I caught it on TV about three years ago and found myself actually having a good time.I saw it again last night on the big screen and that was an even better experience. I almost got a little choked up in a couple places. I thought that they actually did good job providing a backstory for the Grinch and expanding on the original story. If nothing else, it's a very engaging movie on a visual level- the costumes and production design, etc. are very cool.
The Cat in the Hat with Mike Meyers still looks freaking terrible to me, though.
Anyway, I whipped up this quick sketch of what one of the characters unique to the movie, Martha May Whovier (Christine Baranski) might look like in a more traditional Dr. Seuss style and added Taylor Momsen's Cindy Lou Who to boot.
I understand that Benedict Cumberbatch will be voicing the Grinch in an animated movie set for 2018, so that'll be interesting to see... in two years.

Aww, you beat me to it when it came to adapting the live-action Grinch characters into the original style (oh well!). But in all seriousness, I think, similarly to you, the live-action Grinch movie is an example of silly fun that was never meant to replace the classic animated film.

Nothing stopping you from doing your own. I do feel like someone could probably execute the concept better than me. Anyway, thanks for the comment/fav.

Great work capturing Seuss' style on this piece.
I do find that live action one to be a guilty pleasure for me as well. It's VERY stupid, but it really captured the Seuss look of the world. I liked Jim Carrey as The Grinch and he looked great. Not sure how you'd make that better really.

Very nice. I am a huge huge fan of the original. I watch it each year alone ... I don't like people seeing me cry.
