Description
Commissioned pic for of the Scarecrow from the 1982 anime adaptation of The Wizard of Oz.I actually grew up watching this adaptation of the story alongside the much more famous MGM musical, and even though you'd get no argument from me that the MGM version is superior, I'm fond of both. One thing the 1982 anime has over the Judy Garland version is that it's more faithful to the original book by L. Frank Baum.

I love that anime movie because I was born in that year. My decade got coolest animated cartoon series and animes as well. Great job. 😊🤗

Huh. That must be why I love Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Annie Hall.
Thanks for commenting.

Oh wow, my grandma had that movie! I remember my sister watched it growing up.

I have this on VHS. Good stuff. It needs an official DVD release.

Very cute. I am not familiar with this rendition, which is awesome! Now I have something new (well, new to me) to discover!
It'll be interesting to see something that is more like the book than the movie. I have mixed emotions about that one: I saw it as a little kid and it scared the bejeezus out of me. Plus, I really wanted to be Dorothy ... I easily identified with her plight and I secretly pretended to be her whenever I played alone on my family's farm.
The other thing is, I didn't want her to go home. That always pissed me off ... that she wanted to go home when she could have stayed in Oz.
Yep, I am one screwed up little puppy.

Well, at least Dorothy did eventually move to Oz permanently by the sixth book. You can find this version on YouTube if you search by the title and the year. Someone uploaded the whole thing and someone else uploaded it in six parts, which is the one I'd recommend watching because the other guy inserted a couple dozen ad breaks into the video and it's really annoying.

This was actually the version I was familiar with, and not the MGM version. Scary, huh?

It is a little out of the ordinary.

Want to know something that makes it even less ordinary? I didn't see it on VHS.

You didn't see it in a theater, did you?

Nope. Alternative home entertainment format. Not laserdisc either.

I don't know what other option there was apart from VHS or laserdisc unless you had an actual print of the film. Either that or you mean you watched it on HBO or Showtime, which is probably how I first saw it.

Nope. I saw it on one of these - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacita… .

Oh, wow, I would not have guessed that. Honestly, I'm not sure I ever even heard of CEDs. A couple years back, I experienced slight bewilderment when I overheard this old guy in a used bookstore who had somehow never heard of laserdiscs, but now I guess it's my turn to feel ignorant about obsolete home video formats.

I got lucky I guess. My grandfather got a lot of discs and a few players from an RCA employee, and my dad has since taken them in and started collecting them. Given they and I were both made in Central Indiana, though, maybe it was just good fortune.

I believe Ralph Baer mentions designing an interface between that kind of video device and the ColecoVision.
