Description when i was clearing out my portfolio i found a series of poems ( i was dabbling with illustration ideas for them) tha ti had printed on acetate so i could overlay them on images - now i no longer need them i played around with mixing up and layering the text like this and thought it might be a useful stock texture

wow so many works! thankyou kindly for choosing to use my stock
and i understand the problem of choosing just one colour when they all look so great - might be interesting to see them all together in one long piece of art

Thank you very much! My mother had said that to me and I may just do that! Thank very much for the stock! I loved using it grate work :3

It really means a lot to hear back off somebody when you use there stock and have good remarks :3

you're most welcome. and i usually find with my mom i ask what she thinks of different colourways in my art and she can never choose either look forwards to seeing the full spectrum of your pieces all together

and not a problem, i always love to see what people can create with the stock i provide, i always like to reply to all messages i receive & try to as much of the work that uses my stock as i can. especially as a lot of the time i find i just think 'that could be useful' so make the stocks but never quite know what they might be used for so its wonderful wonderful to see how people utilize even the most simple resource of mine

Yes I have that problem with my mum, I look foreword on using more of your stock in the future! I see the many amazing things people do with stock I really want to start let people use some of my own images I've taken myself and stuff I've made when I've been messing around could come in use by somebody else

i think parents must be in a sense all the same from time to time.
if you use more of my stock i would love to see what you do create
Originally i just used to create art and was pretty much unwilling to create stock but since i started creating literature templates and other such stock pieces its certainly opened up a whole new section of the deviantart community to me

Yeah that is true:3

I've never liked using other peoples images until now!I started to use some stock images and I've started to see a different side to deviant art much more artistic and creative than I 1st saw.
I'd really love to get some of my photos up and let other people use them it opens my mind up to see what other people can do and makes me get interested and try and make my own and that sort of style very fun but it can be frustrating sometimes working on meany images for hours drawing for hours and getting no where with it and just deleting it and never seeing it again. I love looking at stock photos or images and seeing what people can make them in to, I'd really love to be able to have others use my art in there own

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to Michael-Driver [2013-01-23 19:06:48 +0000 UTC]

in all honesty its very rare i do use other peoples stock and resources and usually i only do so when i absolutely must, as i prefer to make my own stocks and generally if i need to create something for stock i know its a good idea to upload it as if i need it other people might as well.

i never delete things straight off. if i find something is not going my way i save it and then come back to it later, if i can't salvage it when i have a fresh look at it - i find it usually gets recycled into something else.

I use my phone at the moment doesn't take the best of photos, But I guess they are useable but I love working on images I can get right up and edit the smallest things :3 sometimes I can't do that because it needs to be sharpened and smoothing out before I can do anything like that to most of my images Ohh well not to worry :3

I love having this comment to comment sort of thing here its nice to talk to people that use your art in there's or you use there's and get good feed back too

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to Michael-Driver [2013-01-23 21:38:29 +0000 UTC]

ah my phone is still in the dark ages. no camera or anything i can text and call and that's it - i'm usually climbing around photographing or at festivals or such and i wreck phones so i have no wish to kill an expensive phone by dropping it in a canal or such

GIMP is your friend with editing things you can do a lot of what you do with Photoshop with GIMP and its a free download

comment to comment like this is great it helps build community and sometimes sooner or later useful tidbits of information come out that can really help or inspire & in all fairness its great to find another fellow Brit on here

Michael-Driver In reply to rockgem [2013-01-23 21:50:18 +0000 UTC]

Haha Yes! A fellow Brit that is the best part :3

Yeah that's what I'm interested in doing going to festivals and building up a portfolio of photos for everyone one to use

I've used Gimp many of times I use it on my laptop because Photoshop is to big and is kinda laggy when I have everything open on my laptop and I'm working on an 18mb image -.-' So I when I work on my laptop I finish it there then put it on the main screen and touch anything I need to touch up in Photoshop :3 I could also do with saving up for a tablet I don't have one anymore it got lost when I moved out its so hard to get the right sort of shapes with a mouse takes a lot longer

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to Michael-Driver [2013-01-23 22:03:52 +0000 UTC]

I've moved on a little from the festivals over here to ones in Germany - last year i went to Me'ra Luna and plan to go again this year [link]

i find GIMP a bit tricky at times mainly cause i got used to photoshop first, i've got Photoshop elements3 but i usually just use the slightly older photoshop elements. i usually work on my main computer ( cause of the screen size) then use the laptop to finish details. i have a tablet - i got one some years back when they were still new but i find i don't use it too often most what i do is done with a mouse these days

Michael-Driver In reply to rockgem [2013-01-23 22:25:47 +0000 UTC]

Nightwish <333 Yeah I've been interested in traveling around the world I want to experience different things and get lots of photos
That is my problem with GIMP I struggle to use it because I grew up with the early versions of Fireworks then paint then paint.net I still use paint.net from time to time its a good program but sometimes it can take its time to load when doing stuff, But all in all I like to use Photoshop in the end to fix things that I just can't do on gimp tricky little program and small to so doesn't take any-room up at all really
I've also got use to using the mouse but it is always good to have a tablet there to get those shapes I just can do with a mouse

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to Michael-Driver [2013-01-23 22:31:50 +0000 UTC]

that was my friend ~Dawn-of-the-River s reaction to Nightwish and also to Him, though last year Placebo was one of the liners and Faderhead played an epic set.

ever tried artrage? i think there is a free version online or there used to be not sure now but the magazine 'Digital Artist' ( now Fantasy Artist ) did some interesting tutorials with it.

i think its like everything else you get used to a way of working or a way of doing something so you do it then when you realise there is an easier way its a bit of a revelation i find i still go back to using the mouse even though i have as i said other options

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Michael-Driver In reply to rockgem [2013-01-23 22:49:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah :3 I love Nightwish!I love Placebo and Faderhead to !
So jelly about that ^.^ hehe!

I've never tryed it before I shall have to have a look around for the program and have a go :3

Haha with Photoshop I always do it the long way so I can test everything I can out :3 Some of my art has been just left open im Photoshop for weeks on end on my main computer and I just go back and forewords to old and new projects some I rage at and get mad and get ride of them then I wish I'd never of done that. But I guess I'm just stubborn -.-'

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to Michael-Driver [2013-01-23 23:35:54 +0000 UTC]

to be fair it was great In Extremo, New Model Army Noyce & down below played some good sets too - not to mention medieval themed market on site as well as the bands etc.

i remember reading a tutorial in the magazine about certain brushes that can be used for metallic paint effects etc.

i'm self taught with photoshop so a lot of my experience is 'what does this button do?' i'm still discovering new things to do with it even now. usually i save my work at manag stages then save the finished piece as a psd and a jpg so i upload the jpg but cna go back and edit the psd into something new if i want to.
you're an artist. & us artists are ALWAYS our own worst critics

Michael-Driver In reply to rockgem [2013-01-24 07:36:05 +0000 UTC]

OMG I bet that was so much fun! :3

Yeah I'm mainly picked it up by watching other people or testing it out for my self I don't tend to save much of what I do ;/ a lot I just down out of boredom to see where I can get with it and if people like it or not :3

I love it when I get good as-well as bad criticism on my art to because there's always ways to improve and I'm looking to improve :3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to Michael-Driver [2013-01-26 15:33:32 +0000 UTC]

it was & its pretty much why i've paid my deposits for going this year

i think i find learning that way - as in self taught you can go at your own pace and there is no one to tell you 'thats wrong this is wrong or do it this way'

i like feedback - i just really don't like people who mistake the word 'critique' for 'criticize' and thus just go off on a tirade of 'your work is rubbish' without adding any constructiveness in the mix if anyone wants to say something bad against my work then i at least like to know their opinion of why it is bad or what they don't like about it. that way i can either defend my work or agree with what is said.

I also like feed back and hate it when people mix them up really does my head in and sorry for the late reply so many comments to reply to at the moment takes time to go though them and reply to them.

I rage a lot when it doesn't go my way sad really but I don't often use stock but I've been trying to get a new camera so I can get some of my own stock up! The photos of my own I have at have taken over time just for the sake of taking a photo I've used a lot of it in my own work I use at-least I find it hard to work on my own images because there not to the quality I would like them to be at your limited with a 12 megapixel camera.

My brother gets back from holiday tomorrow so I wont have the main computer to work on as much so I'll be even more limited with out the right tools! I really should start saving -.-' (you didn't ask for my life story sorry XD ) :3 -Kinda gone of subject a little too-

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rockgem In reply to Michael-Driver [2013-01-23 20:01:17 +0000 UTC]

i do a mix of both , photos because i can take them, then from that i started playing with textures or specifically thinking when i take an image to focus on the resource part of it or looking for textures when i'm out shooting in general usually i end up with a mix of both.

my camera is an 8 megapixel nikon coolpix. i seem to manage ok with it in all fairness and i've had it for quite a few years and its been great - it might not be the most up to date etc but if it does the job i can't complain.

no worries its good to be able to put a little more personality to the person behind the name on the screen so i don't mind at all

lol it keeps me out of mischief anyways - i was sorting out my old portfolio work and such and i was just shredding old works etc and in one series of university work i had been doing a project illustrating random text and poetry and there were these acetate overlays now i shredded the papers ans had these in a pile and noticed the interesting effects with all the words etc layered upside down back to front etc - says a lot about how my mind works when i suddenly thing 'stock!!!'
