It's taken some time but I'm hoping this shows some improvement on my previous work.I'm a long way of the level of realism I hope to one day reach.
All credit for the pose has to go to Lev Dolgachov the photographer who's photo I used as a reference.
A3 Smooth Bristol
5H-2B Faber Castell 9000 pencils
Blending stump
Derwent pencil eraser
Lots of frustration.
Any one found using my work without my permission will be forced to listen to the Barney song on a continuous loop for a full week. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Honest critiques welcome as I'm self taught and need to know what I could do better.
I'm entering this into the Improve Yourself Challenge at
I'm using this both to encourage me to start drawing again, to develop my level of realism, improve my rendering of hair and tackle at least one new texture such as fabric.

Wooow! You got a DD when I was offline! Belated congratulations, Gary! Well, well deserved! You know I love it for its simplicity and many details at the same time, its smoothness and power that radiates from it. This drawing is perfect!

Thank you so much, it was a total shock and made me feel a little awkward as I feel there are far more deserving artists and works. But hopefully, now they are bring in the 6 month rule between DD's it may make it a bit fairer allowing those who have been waiting years to have a chance of getting one.
I won't be in a hurry for another, it took me 2 weeks to reply to all the comments and thank for all the fav's.

Haha, no I was not being sarcastic, though that is my preferred type of humour. I'm a long way off the level of many artist I admire and watch and being a relative beginner I've yet to build up any confidence in my ability.
I am extremely grateful for your kind words, the fav, watch and that big hairy beast that will eat me out of house and home.

Many congratulations, it's one of those special pieces that i love to look at often. The details under the skin are beautifully rendered and i consider it one those drawings that inspires me to do better

Oh my. This is stunning work! I know that you used a similar photograph as reference, but still! This is extremely deep! It makes me think so much! It looks like a photogrpah, I actually thought that it was one when I first saw it, and I still didn't believe it until I read that it was one in the description. Wonderful work! You deserve the DD!
