Description SPOILERS!! LOOK AWAY IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE FILM YET!!

ok when you watch the trailer for the new Godzilla, they make it look like the government has been covering his tracks whenever he attacks, and that he would finally be exposed when its time to fight the new monster, but in the movie the destruction and cover up mainly goes to the Mutos who destroy everything and eat everything, meanwhile a bunch of ships and scientists follow him around like a whale migrating and basically it made me think of this, cus Godzilla is actually a bit sweeter than the other two Mutos in the film

i made a post on tumblr which got so popular in just 24 hours that inspired me to make the post into a short comic about the two different monsters in the new Godzilla film ; u ;

and i gotta say it was pretty successful, the new post with the comic was more popular than the original, and im pretty proud of myself for finally getting something super popular on tumblr where most of my stuff never gets noticed

hope you enjoy, see Godzilla in theaters everywhere now playing

i do not own Godzilla or the Mutos, Godzilla belongs to Toho studios and the Mutos belong to Garreth Edwards

ah idk both the Mutos were equally a pair of a-holes, but when it comes to the female everyone claims it was either cus she was pregant or on her period, which doesnt make sense cus she didnt mate with the male until she got to San Franisco and did the nose-nuzzling thing

One of the most pleasant surprises of the movie was how many cues it took from the 60s/70s films where he was the good guy, in spite of claiming (and admittedly possessing) influence from the 50's original.

The bit that cinched it for me was when everyone applauded Godzilla at the very end. For some, that part ruined the movie. For me, it MADE the movie.

well maybe the director promoted it that way so we wouldnt expect it to be cheesy like the 60's/70's films but he knew the right ways to make it feel that way, cus they were kinda like "science, disaster, oh no a monster lets kill it, but wait its Godzilla .. yay he saved us!"

he said he wanted this one to be just as serious as the first film, cus thousands of people died and it sorta gets underplayed later in the films (Godzilla Final Wars left the earth with a headcount of maybe 6000 people surviving) so in this new one he wanted us all to understand the seriousness and stressfulness of how we'd all react if giant monsters started destroying everything, but then Godzilla just happened to be our hero without even trying, which is why the applauding made it more significant

I feel it struck a good balance. The danger was real, the toll was staggering, and we as a species were ultimately at fault for bringing about the destruction through our disregard for our impact on the environment...

...But lucky for us, we've got a relatively benevolent colossus of reptilian kickass with nuclear plasma breath and excellent dramatic timing. Speaking of which, when Godzilla's spikes began glowing blue, I'm pretty sure I mentally reverted to 8 years old again, if only for a brief glorious moment.

Really, the movie's only major problems were killing the dad and keeping the son (it would have been MUCH more interesting and sense-making from a storytelling standpoint the other way around), and having a boring 2nd act, since it had neither the pitch-perfect classic horror tension of the 1st act nor the all-out old-school smackdown of the 3rd act.

PS: I find it hilarious that Godzilla manages a total collateral damage that's much lower than Man of Steel, alongside a much higher level of mindful discretion.

that's the proper way to do a review on the new Godzilla

and yeah its been a recurring joke in the Godzilla fandom how he destroys so much but still doesnt destroy nearly as much as Superman and Zod did hahah

pretty much hahaha
now that you mentioned it, Heisei Godzilla and the Mutos have both been known to directly attack people while the Legendary Godzilla only destroys stuff by accident

Godzilla, living in a world populated by ants in sand castles.

The Muto were needlessly moving out of their way to smash stuff like angry kids. Although really, they were. Newly hatched from their pupae stage into adult hood and aggressively attacking anything. With such aggressive creatures whose offspring are potentially fatal parasites it can be no wonder Godzilla made it a point to kill them.

I like the implications of the tsunami. First time its like "woops", so next time he slows down before reaching the shallows and walks the rest of the way when its shallow enough.

RoFlo-Felorez In reply to Rhuen1 [2014-12-26 09:17:41 +0000 UTC]

yeah when he made it to Hawaii he was probably rushing to kick the Muto's ass so he probably went too fast and wiped out the whole coastal area by accident, then later on he's like "ok THIS time dont kill them with tidal waves"

after all he did stop before hitting the Golden Gate bridge on his way in (even though he broke it 2 minutes later)

Rhuen1 In reply to RoFlo-Felorez [2014-12-26 22:01:40 +0000 UTC]

At the bridge I got the impression he was looking for a way around this (thing going across the water covered in little bugs)...but the bugs started to attack him so he was like (screw it) and smashed through.

yeah, anyone would have done the same really, unless it were a nest of bees in which only Godzilla couldn't care less

This reminded me something, there is a short animation called "Godzilla vs the Human Bugs" in which Godzilla reacts to people, like many people do to bugs.

its cute, maybe that's why he was trying not to destroy stuff whenever possible cus he thought they'd get all over him, after all at the end of the movie he just got up and quickly got the fuck outta there to avoid having people crawl all over him haha

  Cute and funny. X3

I liked that they made Godzilla nicer in the movie.  I miss the hero style Godzilla so it was a great thing to see.
If he could speak he'd be saying "If you guys would stop shooting me and let me in, I can fix your Muto problem and be out of here!"

The female Muto was a little too "evil" to me.  She was dedicated to eating this one little guy that I didn't think she could even see.

I wish they should a little more Godzilla but the parts that he was in were excellent.  Of course I do know that animation isn't free and money doesn't grow on trees.

Well that one little guy was the only thing around at the charred remains of her nest. It is understandable it would attack the small creature. Size wise it would be like a person seeing an ant.

RoFlo-Felorez In reply to Drake6401 [2014-12-14 21:51:32 +0000 UTC]

that's true, all in all it was a great movie, Godzilla was just a big clumsy sweetheart trying to save the day while people were shooting at him, meanwhile the Mutos get more love for being a mated pair and stuff, no one really notices how evil they are :c but hopefully in the next movie they'll be more understanding of Goji

Err, actually, I read something about how pregnant/breeding animals are far more aggressive than ones that aren't. Probably explains why Godzilla was more passive towards the humans.

(half of the people on the comment thread blames it on the pregnancy thing btw

that makes sense, it would also explain why its not just the female but also the male who's a giant douche, cus they both wreck a lot of stuff for no reason, the male wasnt pregnant but he was in heat so he just smashed everything in his way
