This is probably my last finished movie of this year, so let's go out with a bang that will give you quite a headache.

Another hyper Sonic movie, for everyone who complained that I lost my crappy drawingstyle and got bored with all the more artsy things I've done.

Oh, and to finally shut people up about telling me the Babylon Rogues are back. I KNOW, darn it.

So yeah, Zero Gravity, what's there to say?
Thing that amuses me the most is that all the levels are racetracks that go in a loop.
That was fine for the first game, since it revolved around a grand prix, but in this game our heroes race because they need to go somewhere, are being chased, or are doing the chasing. So why the heck are the racing in circles?
Would make more sense if the levels were long stretches of road, like in most Rally games or in the Cruis'n series.

What's with the Raiders of the lost Ark vibes in the babylon Rogues story opening anway, Storm's even making the same arm movements as Indy's "sidekick".

For the rest, the game has a generic Sonic story, so let's go around the bulletpoints:

---Annoying new main character: Suprisingly no, but the Babylon Rogues return. Wave and Storm became a lot more likeble in this game, but Jet is really annoying here, getting right on my most annoying characters list after SIlver and Chris.
He yells at Storm and Wave for being late at one point, after they seperated to do chores. Things Wave did:
Research ancient civilisation, improve the airboards, invent a brand new radar system.
Things Storm did: Fight Amy, being attacked by robots, getting lost in the city, finding 2 cosmos stones and getting back to a flying headquarters with no aircraft.
Things Jet did:... moan and complain behind his desk.
Why's that guy the leader anyway?
I love one bit of dialogue that went like;
Jet: Give me THAT THING girl!
Sonic: Girls don't cooperate when you rush them Jet!
Jet: Rush?? IM THE FASTEST CREATURE ALIVE AND IM FAST AND AWESOME AND FAST (insert 5 hour lecture about how fast he is)

Great Jet, but that wasn't Sonic's point. But that bit sums him up pretty much. Heck, it sums up all Sonic characters now I think about it.

---New super evil villain.
Jup, move over Ultimate Doom, Erazor Djin and Mephiles, because here is..dun dun dun! SCR-HD! It's a robot! He wants to steal a ring, and then.. explodes.
Then he steals the rings again..and then he explodes again.
Wow, I guess he's modeled after Sauron from Lord of the rings or something.

Exposition plot: As usual, the game doesn't have any real plot, other then characters yelling how awesome they are and then moving to a diffrent place. Occasionally that plot get's interupted by tedious exposition.

I love it how Tails at one point goes "The robots exploded.. BUT THAT MEANS!..no wait, I have to think first.." As if the writers want to build up suspense about the exposition.
Oh, why did the robots explode, Tails? Because of the power of the chaos emeralds? or the power of the Ark? or the power of the cosmos stones? Or the power of this paperclip? Tell me!! The suspense is killing me!!

The back story is about aliens crashing on earth, because their ship crashed because they send it into space to cause a black hole to destroy earth as a warning for not using the spaceship who's in space about to kill them.. or something.
Makes sense.

--Most conflict in the story is caused by the heroes's speech impediments;
Jup, as usual your biggest enemies are your friends, because they keep fighting because..eh.. I dunno.
If I were Eggman, I'd just start a pie eating contest for Sonic and his "friends" and make them murder each other over who's the best eater, while I go somewhere else carrying out my evil plans.

Speaking of which, what the heck does Eggman want anyway? Build Robotnikland? The guy has at least two entire new themepark/city/factory whatever's in every game, why does he even need a evil plan to get Roobtnikland? He seems to have his own evil cities and all already, especially since GUN and Sonic never seem to bother demolishing those. They just stop Eggman's useless moonlaser weapon, or in Tails case, take away 300 rings, and then go away again. Morons.

To say this was hilarious would be an understatement. I couldn't stop laughing at this video. The best parts would have to be:

Tails: That's not how you should talk to people. Watch. Knuckles, how are you?
Knuckles: AAGH! I'm confused!

-And-

Sonic: What's the villain?
Robotnik: It's a robot.
Sonic: What's it do?
Robotnik: It's a robot.
Sonic: What's its motivation?
Robotnik: It's a robot.

Unfortunately, if the video had any failings, it's that it was TOO fast. As funny as the voices were, your dialogue would be funny enough on its own but I couldn't get everything. Still very funny though.

Also, I'm afraid you and I disagree on the stories of Sonic's games. "Riders" and "Zero Gravity" undoubtedly suck but everything besides the Wii games, “Rush” games, and "Unleashed," I thought was very good. You have a point that WAY too many characters claim to be the fastest but I don't quite see the in-group quarrelling you mentioned outside of Knuckles getting confused in "Riders" and saying that he hated to admit Tails was right about something in "Adventure." As for Robotnik, like all dictators, he wants to take over the whole world, hence why one Robotnikland is never enough...Though he should come out and say it instead of beating around the bush...and Robotnikland should stop being a theme park like in "Unleashed..."

Speaking of "Unleashed," which would say was worse, that or the "Riders" games?

The group fighting each other is a running gag I have based on all games, not just one. Knuckles tried to kill Sonic on at least 6 occasions (counting all his attacks in Sonic 3 as one) ,
but in many games, especially Sonic rivals 1 and 2 and Sonic battle, all Sonic's friend beat each other up for no or little provocation.

In story terms, riders was more fun to make fun of, but for gameplay, unleashed wins. Tough didn't like it as much as most people do

Ozz-the-Wanderer In reply to Rogerregorroger [2009-06-18 17:24:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, I forgot about "Battle" (mostly because I don't deem it cannon even if it is good) and I never played the "Rival" games. I will admit though that "Battle" had an absurd number of friends fighting. "Sonic 3 & Knuckles" is undoubtedly cannon but can you really consider Knuckles' frequent attacks as friend in-fighting if Knuckles was under the impression that Sonic was his enemy? Then in "Sonic Adventure" he was once again mislead to believe Sonic was conspiring against him and aside from that, he only had a begrudging respect for him by then, not a real friendship. Every major console game after "Adventure," the only in-fighting was in "Heroes" when Amy tried to marry Sonic caveman style. But does her vote really count if she's legally insane? Also, Sonic and Tails' and Amy and Cream's dialogue in the next stage gives me the impression that Sonic ran away rather than stayed to fight.

Just for fun, could you make a list of games in which Sonic and those who were definitely friends of his fought, no mind-control, trickery, etc? Here's everything I've played that I know didn't have in-fighting in it. I'll skip "2," "3," and "CD" seeing as how Tails is way too in my favor for them to be fair and if Amy fought with Sonic back then, Metal Sonic probably would have killed her so logic may have been the only deterrent.

"Adventure 1 & 2"
"Advance 1-3" (even though I don't consider them cannon)
"Shadow" (Shadow doesn't consider himself Sonic's friend as far as I can tell)
"2006"
"Unleashed" (albeit non-cannon)
"Dark Brotherhood" (non-cannon)
"Rush 2" (n-c and only saw the cut scenes, never saw "Rush 1")

As for "Riders" and "Unleashed," "Riders" was probably an okay racing game, I didn't mind it when I played it. "Unleashed," however, almost made me vomit (hence why I never ate before playing it). Of course, I only played the PS2 version. From what I hear, the PS3/360 versions were better so I may not be giving the game a fair chance. The story was probably equally bad in both games but there was one scene I thought was genuinely funny in "Riders." When Wave was talking to Jet in the jungle, he didn't care about what she was saying so all he heard was fast-forwarded squeaking. That was actually not bad. Despite how bad Were-Sonic and Chip were, I can see how a more traditional Sonic game could be preferable over a racing game (as ironic as that sounds), especially if the platformer has fewer characters and thusly fewer annoying characters.

Canon, non-canon? There's no contuity in the games since after SOnic adventure 2, so I don't think there really is a canon, each game these days is it's own stand alone canon. O
Besides Sonic battle and rivals and riders, there's few examples of friends fighting each other for little provocation yeah, altough Vector nearly kills Charmy for no reason in Shadow, Shadow deliberatly taking Metal Sonic under his care after Sonic heroes is questionable to say the least (altough it's never mentioned again)

Other then out right attacks, there's plenty of other moments where Sonic and friends act like psycho's.
Sonic very often forget's Amy's in perril, or deliberty makes it worse (sending her off in a tornado in Sonic riders, always having wrong priorities, when everyone's in danger with a collapsing space station or something, he still goes around challenging everyone to fights or races, not to mention they always seem to greet each other with a "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" attitude, especially in Secret Rings and Black Knight.

Also notice when Sonic and SIlver meet for the first time in Sonic 2006, Amy stops Silver from killing SOnic, and Sonic immediatly runs off, meaning he leaves her on her own with a potential killer (and immediatly starts romancing the Elise without a second tought. How cute)

Silver never seems to notice how often BLaze appears and reappears, or mentions her death/sending to a diffrent dimension at all during that tragic scene.

Omega's an out of controll robot who wants at least 10% of all the main characters dead, yet they keep him around all the time.
Shadow's best friends with Dr. Eggman, even tough he tried to kill him several times.
Same for Omega again.

Knuckles never bothers to protect the master emerald, even tough his floating island will crash down when it's stolen, potentially crushing cities or causing tidel waves.
Of course tagging along with Sonic while not doing anything is so much more important.

I can go on and on, but it's clear they love to bring each other in danger, never have a quiet moment together, only bother to save each other if it's for the thrill, and so on and so on, I can't imagine them as anything else but a group of psycho's together.
That's why I love the series so much.

Ozz-the-Wanderer In reply to Rogerregorroger [2009-06-18 22:32:51 +0000 UTC]

Well of course. I never said that Sonic was sane, just that he and his friends aren't always killing each other...though that isn't a good trade-off, is it?

Tails and Amy have a crippling dependency on Sonic and distorted views of the world that are, in one way or another, based on him. Besides that, they have little to no social grace seeing as how they only have machines or marriage on their mind if their mouth is saying "Sonic" ever other word.

Knuckles is either depicted as an unbelievably trusting person (not my favorite depiction) or a violent, anti-socialite who treats even those he loves as potential back-stabbers and everyone else an outright enemy (Rouge's teasing to him being deliberate insults rather than jokes). Clearly the result of living in seclusion for his entire life without having once spoken to someone. However, his recent straying from the Master Emerald actually shows an increasing humaneness in his nature...or an addiction to lack of responsibility that Sonic introduced to him. Like an Amish man who got a taste of Vegas and never wants to go back to work.

Shadow is Shadow.

Omega is a Terminator trying to give itself feelings. Simply by going against Robotnik at all and actually accepting ANY, let alone TWO, characters as friends is the robotic equivalent insanity. The only sane thing for Omega to do is to kill everyone BUT Robotnik or die trying.

Robotnik, Black Doom, Mephiles, and Metal Sonic are all self-righteous sociapaths with contradicting logic that, if followed to the tee, should actually see them killing themselves as well as those they deem evil. Though Mephiles seems less hypocritical and rather just plain evil given that he was willing to sacrifice himself to make a creature that would bring about his goal even if he wouldn't be there to see it. With the other villains, it seems more like an excuse for their wicked ways than a philosophy.

Blaze is more machine than Omega and Metal Sonic. Though not genocidal, she has no value for lives. If she can save the lives of two strangers at the cost of just her own or that of a single friend, she would kill the one to save the two without a shred of remorse. She's incredibly cold and mechanical despite her name, like a Terminator that was never programmed to kill, guided by logic, not love.

I didn't really notice anything distorted about Silver. He actually seemed normal to me. Guilt-ridden over the possibility of killing someone, very attached to his single friend. I think he noticed and mentioned the crap out of Blaze's "death" myself but the reason he didn't make that big a deal out of their parting ways is probably because he had the fate of the future to occupy his thoughts. As for why he didn't bring up Blaze's "death" in the last story, fate of the world once again takes top priority (though it sucked that Blaze didn't come back even though Silver did) and who's he gonna talk to about it? He only knew Blaze, Amy, and Sonic. Sonic was busy being dead (selfish jerk) and Amy, as far as Silver could tell, still hated him.

Of all the characters, I'd have to say Rouge and Team Chaotix are the most sane. Nothing seems wrong with Rouge, she's very calculating like Blaze but her primary interest is herself. Until recently, she's had no care about the lives of others and simply used them for her own ends; more selfish than insane. That she has taken a liking to two gun-toting sociopaths, however, is questionable on her part. Team Chaotix, though visibly the LEAST sane group, seems to joke around more out of good humor and fun than an absence of logic. The kind of violence you see between Vector and Charmy is more often associated with closeness than hatred if I remember correctly. Espio, meanwhile, is just a boring person to hang around. Of course, their jokes' placement is oftentimes questionable. This either means that they have poor priorities, or that they are the most competent characters in the series and, like James Bond with his suave, always have a second to throw in some slapstick.

Sonic, of course, is narcissistic and lives in his own world. He has no regard for conventions (perhaps blatantly defying them just because). While he doesn't boss people around like Robotnik, he also doesn't care too much about what they do or think. He tends to get so caught up in himself and what he's doing that obvious things like "Amy's with a psychotic killer" and "Robotnik has a gun pointed at Amy's head" never occur to him 'cause he's too busy doing his own thing...also, if a girl constantly berated you about getting married, wouldn't you try to find a convenient excuse to get rid of her? Of course, he treated Amy's hostage situation in "Adventure 2" with humor rather than callousness. In the recap right before his Space Gadget stage etc, he jokingly implies he doesn't care but then immediately states that he does.

I'll agree that almost every last character is insane...Though if your video is a reflection of your views and not just a hilarious work of art, then that's where we differ. Where you may see a group of animals hocked up on sugar pills emulating the Looney Tunes, I see a group of clinically insane creatures that are more like the quiet guys in the corner that eventually snap and kill all of their co-workers or kill their loved ones and wear their skin...if not a little toned down.

That kind of crazy is why I love them.

As for canonicity, I believe "Sonic," "2," "CD," "3 & Knuckles," "Adventure," "Adventure 2," "Heroes," "Shadow," and "2006" are all cannon. "Heroes" makes mention of Chaos, Metal Sonic, and a few characters/themes from previous games to set it in the same reality. More importantly, it sets the stage for "Shadow." "Shadow" makes dozens of tie-ins and explanations of "Adventure 2" and "Heroes" (unfortunately all but one ending was irrelevant) and fleshes out the formerly mysterious G.U.N. of "Adventure 2." Although the villain comes and goes, it changes Shadow from a self-concerned, homicidal lone wolf to a government sponsored hero who is concerned over the fate of more than himself...while missing the days he was a self-concerned, homicidal lone wolf, as is demonstrated in "06." By all rights, I should consider "Unleashed" cannon...but I just hate it too much to acknowledge it.

Comparing Sonic characters with Loony Tunes characters is a good one actually.. They really do behave like such.
The only problem is that Loony Tunes live in a world where you can get blown up or thrown of a cliff with no serious consequences, while in Sonic's world, death and pain are part of the world, making it more awkward to behave as such.

Problem with Rouge and the Chaotix is that they try to get to their goal in the most awkward way possible.
Chaotix never tought it's strange they had to find 10 crabs, or 500 rings in a 5 minute time limit to rescue a hostage.
And as I pointed out in one earlier flash movie, Rouge always seem to get jewels in ways that have nothing to do with getting jewels. Jumping in an abondonned robotbase in the desert or running around an exploding prison island is not the first thing that comes to my mind when thinking of logical ways to get jewels.

About Rouge: Like all professional thieves, she likes a challenge. For example, if Catwoman was concerned with JUST results, she'd have left Gotham years ago rather than constantly put up with Batman. Also, Rouge finds herself in such weird places more because her employers tell her to be there than because she chose to. Unfortunately, I've not had the pleasure of seeing your other videos to see you illustrate this point more visibly.

As for Chaotix, I remember the crabs were a test for them, to prove they were worth Robotnik's time (why he chose such a simple test considering they'd be fighting an army he considered invincible however...). And, like Rouge, all of their activities are the decisions of their employers, not so much themselves. At the end of the day, they're practically mercenaries (minus the crime and killing), they just do what they're told for the money.

Looney Tunes is one analogy for Sonic, but I see them as mentally disturbed as opposed to logically irresponsible. Deadpool crazy is funny anytime but at the end of the day, I prefer my psychos more in the vein of Rorschac and Batman. I see that kind of insanity in the cast considering they have unrealistic and deep-seeded devotion to certain goals or people, Robotnik (when done right) seems like he genuinely hates the human race or is hell-bent on avenging his grandfather, and that some characters are capable of going completely insane and show little to no ability of completely conforming to society without society or themselves hurt.

Chaotix had to proof if they were worth Robotnik's time?
Robotnik was rotting away in a basement, hardly the time to go around ordering detectives to proof themselves worthy to save you.
If someone asked me to save him, and then went around ordering me to walk trough a town while finding 500 rings and not touching any crabs, It'd brreak of the phone call, satisfied that the cry for help couldn't be all that serious.

Ehm, thhis movie was the one where I dived into the sonic characters more indepth:

Well, you've gotta remember that Robotnik is one of those self-glorified dictators. He wants to take over the world because he thinks he's smarter than everyone and thusly believes he can do things better than them. If he's going to get help, he wants to make sure they're A-listers, not average joes. Also, if he didn't test them and they went up against his army and died, then it would have been a waste of his time to have ever considered them. Also, I believe Robotnik had considerable freedom compared to most captives. I think Metal Sonic was showing him some mercy since he knows Robotnik created him. Otherwise, why would he keep him around since he already acquired his data and Robotnik wouldn't be a sympathetic hostage to bargain off?

I'll watch your videos as soon as I can and comment afterwards. Looking forward to them.

hmm... well, i'm about to write a drama about tailxwave i'm gonna stick to alot of the story line but afterwerd, like the distant futere..
and if sega makes it happen before i finish, i will draw tails flicking off a sega logo.

only by a few, and lets put it this way, when tails is 18 wouldn't wave be like 21 and due to the fact tails matures quickly?
