Description
This drawing is part of the Sonic Movie project created by who hired me to do all of the model-sheets. This design was the first version I did before inspired by the Robotnik re-design belonging Cionex and Sonicus Prime as found on FUS [link]Sega unfortunately is already in talks with a thrid party for a production of the Sonic feature so the project is ended. Read Rich's journal to know more details: [link]

An interesting blend of the old animated series and current Eggman/Robotnik. Nice work. I don't know to much about the past project that was going on, I just know it landed you in a little hot water, and then Rich. How far did things get before Sega gave the news of the third party working on the other film?

Thank you, I'm glad you like it!
The things went bad because Rich asked me to draw Robotnik as close as the Cionex drawing as possible and I though it was an art made from a previous hired artist... but it's everything ok now.
As fars as I know, when Sega gave to Rich the red light, we just had the movie script written by Rich and the model sheets drawn by me.
Now RIch is trying to do the movie by himself as a fan movie.

Yeah, the fan film. He's dead set on getting this thing finished. I love 2D animation as much as the next guy, but with how much he's hoping to make to get this film done... he should seriously re-think he strategy. He shot down my idea for an animatic recently.
Hey, glad to see your work from the project. It would have been cool to see some animated tests with your character models, though.

Thanks! I did an Sonic running animation test. It's here in my gallery. I will clean up and finish it once I have a free time.
I don't like the satam characters so I don't think the RIch's movie would be good because of them. I don't like the new characters on the games too like Silver and Blaze so in my oppinion a good Sonic movie has to have only the main crew. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Eggman and maybe Amy and Shadow.
I wish I could turn my fancomic trilogy into movies. It needs a little work on script and other details but I think it could be good. The problem is always time and money...

Yeah, it's all a matter of taste, everyone has their own. From the sound of it, Rich wanted to blend all the franchises together... but from the looks of it, it's still just SatAM with small nods to the games. Your idea sounds much more faithful to the games.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been wanting to work on a Sonic fan comic (surprise surprise, it's SatAM based), and I've been busy with some things... but I plan to make it happen. I'll be sure to keep an eye out on yours.
Hey, if your interested here's a site hosting Kuta's fan flick.

In all honesty, I don't really care if it's made or not. From what I know about the story so far, I'm not all that interested, but the art direction looks nice. The site has some of the artwork in the gallery, and I think some art from the previous effort (I think I saw some of your drawings there).

Oh thanks! I saw that site before. Rich told me that my name would still be on cretits since he will still be using some of my artwork. I'm glad to see them there.
I don't like the animation. It's looking like a limited animation series and not a movie.
I know there is money problems so thinking that way it's not that bad.

Thanks so much! It's good to see comments from you! I miss you!
The Sonic Movie project as far as I know is still going on as a fan movie but Rich need donations to pay his animators and he will need a lot of money
My website is supersonichq.org but I am creating my own original character not Sonic related called Garra(spell it Ga-ha and translating is Claw). I am working on the scrpits for the first mini-serie with 3 episodes. As soon as it get news I will post here.

Ah, nice! I have some ideas of my own, too - but I'm mostly writing Sonic things right now, I guess.

Yeah. At least both of you tried to get a good Robotnik design that was both a mix of SatAM & the games version.
Speaking of Robotnik, what do you think of the design me & a friend made (I think Rich told me on a forum he was impressed, though I dunno if he meant the design)? It was based on the StC version but with tweaks to make it closer to the Genesis Robotnik with a few SatAM parts (mainly to make him as "the" Robotnik XD).

The only one I found in your gallery is too Satam for me. Sorry but I don't like the Sonic Satam things. Try a Genesis or Dreamcast version and then I can give you my true oppinion and tips if you want.

I know. But me & the friend wanted to kind of balance the designs & make the character more evil but still keeping his egocentric mad scientist personality.

Yeah.
How do you make these reference sheets anyway? I tried making one but it's harder than I thought. Been wanting to make a reference sheet of our Robotnik design (just to make him look classic & yet cool).

rogferraz In reply to FirebirdPhoenix87 [2010-08-21 22:36:29 +0000 UTC]
It is something all people who work in animation used to work with.
Not so hard if you have your character in mind and when you think about it in 3D.

I don't know anything about 3D softwares too. I said you have to think in 3D. Think of your character in 3 dimensions.
