Description FINALLY rescanned and pasted this old thing together. A friend of mine asked me too cause he's planning to make some wallpapers out of a few of my celeb drawings. That's pretty cool.

Had to scan this in 4 segements and then paste it altogether. Took me several tries cause the damn thing's so long the end drapping out the side of the scanner kept causing it to shift in the scanner bed. Finally solved that problem with some tape.....

Anyways, now everyone can see the full Face/Off drawing as intended (rather then just the 2 sections I posted last month).

Actually, there's no need to tell you how incredibly talented you are, because by now enough people should have told you that. Anyway, doing it one more time can't hurt, can it?

I'm really impressed with your skills. Actually, I'm humbled by them

This is very cool, you got the moment of the movie perfectly. It was so intense when that scene came up, the pause you got in watching it and you got that wonderfully. Your pencil work is BEAUTIFUL! And the way you did the negative space around them, very active...I love it. I also find the composition very pleasing as well. Beautiful, just simply beautiful.

RogueDerek In reply to Silveritha [2004-04-28 22:46:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Silveritha! WOW, some real nice compliments.

I used some photo refs for this, but it still gave me some trouble (particularily Travolta's face, which I had to use other refs for), the negative area of the side of the mirror was actually twice as wide. I cut it out of the photo ref by a half and found it actually worked much better for the drawing. Sometimes you have to alter photo refs to make them work.

Silveritha In reply to RogueDerek [2004-04-29 22:30:09 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean by playing around with photo references because I use them all the time with my work. But you have the artist licence of being able to manipulate stuff to make it work...as my professors say all the time. ^^ But this is a really cool peice and also one of my favorite parts of the movie.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RogueDerek In reply to Silveritha [2004-04-30 01:58:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, photo refs are just that, "refs". You don't have to be a slave to them. If something isn't working in a pic your drawing from a photo, fix it. I try to tell people that now and then when they ask. I completely altered the shirt for my Katie Holmes portait (was a white lace thing) because it just didn't work well in the drawing's composition. You're completely right about artistic license.

Silveritha In reply to RogueDerek [2004-05-02 00:53:00 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean, I tell people that myself. I love the fact that I DO have the right to change things in reference pictures. Hehe. ^^

RogueDerek In reply to the-hurukai [2004-02-23 08:37:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Hurukai. When i'm drawing a real person I tend to get obsessive about details and trying to make the drawing look as much like them as possible. Can be really frustrating.

RogueDerek In reply to RogueDerek [2004-02-24 10:04:01 +0000 UTC]

I've done lots of portraits by eye (photo refs) especially for a few family comissions, but I always felt like I wasn't giving it my all when drawing a real person (I keep thinking I have to make them look like the person as much as possible). Thats why I used a grid for these celebrity portraits, that way I was able to get as obsessively detailed as I could. My Angelina Jolie WIP shows roughly how I did them. At my peak the Tom Cruise took 2.5 days, but I burned out and the last 2 each took a year (mostly of me avoiding them).
