What I think is going on here:
With all the recent excitement in the village, Hiccup nearly forgets his father's birthday. He wants to do something special for him after everything that Hiccup has put him through, so he decides to draw his mother, Stoic's wife. Hiccup unfortunately falls asleep...he's had a busy day helping out the Vikings adapt to their new dragon buddies.
