Description
Recently finished model of the Eagle Transporter from "Space: 1999"This is the old AMT/Ertl kit, built basically straight out of the box.
She has custom "Alpha Moonbase" logos, but the rest is stock.
Always loved this show as a kid, despite the goofy concept of the Moon as an interstellar spacecraft.
Like Alpha herself, I always wanted to build one of these.
Space: 1999 belongs to Gerry Anderson
This model, and all pics of her, belongs to

Yeah, I definitely overdid the black wash on that one

I don't think any of the Eagles on Space 1999 looked this battered, unless they were a wreck. Β Nice job

Yeah, I freely admit that I went WAY overboard on the weathering

I have both seasons of 1999 on DVD and pull it out from time to time to watch again.
The Show was well done for it's time.

I've designed non-atmospheric space shuttles myself
Well, actually just one. But still, it works.
Never saw the show, but I appreciate the Eagle as one of the most realistic spacecraft out there.
What I don't understand is why it has such a strong structure for Lunar gravity

It was also used for stronger gravity environments, not just on the moon.

Well it doesn't seem like it's atmospheric...
What about fuel? Are those NTR (Nuclear Thermal Rocket) engines? Or LOX-LH2/Chemical?
I might be over nit-picking but if they're chemical rocket engines it's missing some very large necessary fuel tanks to make and break orbit even over the moon

I just know they used them in multiple environments.
That, and that same chassis was able to perform multiple tasks, including a cargo hauler
