I think it is possible that Masuda has some inside information for what will happen through out the XY series. Perhaps they are planning on ending Ash's story and have him be married to Serena in an epilogue. Who knows?

well that can happen, they tried ending ash's story after Jhoto but then when Advanced Came around and was shown to a test audience, the test audience Disapproved it and Demanded ash to be the main hero again. So planning that is possible but I think the test audience will do the same again and as long as Pokemon exists, the Anime will exist.
Heck maybe Serena will travel with him to the next Region and meet up with 2 other Companions, that will be something fresh right?

Well romance can be applied to children audience to. Romance is not just for a Mature audience but also for Children (like Disney).
If the romance is innocent and not to complicated then it is enjoyable for both Children and mature audience. But if it is dam complicated then it is not enjoyable for children.
Amourshipping is good for both children and afults

I agree with you there. I wan't really a shipper when I started watching the anime, but even then I instinctively paired up Ash and Misty. Of course, I'm not a PokΓ©shipper but the message here is that kids know what romance is even at a young age, so I think you're right in assuming that the romance appeals to both grownups and kids.

I also instinctively paired Ash with Misty in the beginning. But now Amourshipping is my favourite. Same was in Naruto where i thought that it was NaruSaku at first but after seeing Hinata I started to ship NaruHina and now it is one of my fav ships along with Amourshipping and NaLu.
some ppl say that children dont feel romance until puberty. But the fact is that children also have romantic feelings and that they develop sexual feelings when the are in puberty.
