I assume you tone mapped/HDR'd it though? I personally find that it makes it look rather fake.

yes I did
It actually looked more like this than in a one exposure photo.
the camera can't grasp the huge tonal range of the sunrise with the shadows.
that's when HDR comes to play.

Well sure
But computer monitors can't grasp the tonal range either
So you're basically capturing the range at several different exposures, merging it, and exaggerating it so that it'll show up on the monitors
I think if the building wasn't there, it'd look a lot more natural. For some reason, HDR seems to generally work out better on nature than man-made things.
