Description You know you haven't drawn humans in a while when you discover your 12-piece colored pencil set lacks a peach one for flesh tones, and you bought them two years ago. *Raids 9yo son's art supplies.*

Here's my idea of what Grem and Acer would look like as humans. Translating vehicular elements into clothing is fun -- in the case of Lemons, the tackier, the better!

Just like their car counterparts unmistakably hail from the Seventies, these two would be rockin' the vintage clothing from that era, whether it's their own stuff they've had for years (polyester lasts FOREVER) or they just gravitate to this stuff in thrift stores. Grem's wearing a hopelessly-out-of-style buttondown shirt in a rather garish orange, with stripes to echo the hockey stick decals of an AMC Gremlin, and his shredded jeans have seen better days. Acer has an apple-green bubble vest, again with accents meant to resemble the car's trim, and his t-shirt underneath has a wide stripe in silver glitter iron-on that mimics a Pacer's grille. Note the primer-red patch on his pants -- Acer has actually had some primer repairs if you look at a high-resolution image of him. The high boots and motorcycle gloves are for function and to emphasize their tough-guy look. Acer needed glasses since Pacers are "all glass," and Grem just looked better with them too.

I can't draw faces close-up, but I tried to give Acer his usual wide smile and Grem a sleazy grin that shows off his teeth. He has a mustache since his grille is supposed to look like one, and although he almost always has red hair in humanized fan art, here he has jet-black hair pulled into a messy ponytail. Also a bit of a receding hairline -- I had the impression he and Acer are around 40 years old, though your interpretation may vary. Acer is not the kind of guy who keeps up with current trends, thus he's still sporting fluffy "wings," Bo Duke style. Hey, if it worked 30 years ago... I thought he might have blonde hair; the green hair he sometimes has in fan art looks far better on anime-style humanizations.

Grem is lanky with a few random muscles, considering he's a 90-horsepower subcompact in his vehicular form. Both guys are probably a little shorter than average, but Acer is more bulky, as the AMC Pacer was billed as "the first wide small car," and he's noticeably more muscled-up than his counterpart. So here they are, exchanging devious grins.

Aww! They look adorable! I can't humans to save my life. Kudos! I did picture them the other way around, however. Like, Grem would be chubbier than Acer.

Thank you muchly, that means a lot! Drawing humans is tough; if I had to describe my style it's probably closest to the realistic but not overly detailed characters in the Hanna Barbera cartoons of the Seventies. I can't draw anime style to save my life.

I'm glad they came across as cute since I tried to make them look a little shifty at the same time, but ultimately likeable guys. Gremlins were considered subcompact muscle cars so there's no reason why Grem couldn't be chubbier.

I wore one JUST like it in high school, because I was just that hip in the early Nineties. I thought it would add that appropriate Pacer wideness.

[I know I've already said it before, but I definitely find them cuter as cars. I'm not a fan of human-izations at all. ]

No problem, and I prefer drawing them in car form too, but the chance to draw these two in not-quite-hiply-ironic Seventies duds was too good to pass up.
