Probably not that early. I suspect that males are constantly monitored, tested, and evaluated throughout their childhood and early adolescence so that they may be put to the best use by the Female society. Timmy's error was that he never got rated as "properly subservient," "intelligent, can probably be trained to perform many useful tricks," or even just "kind of cute" by any of the girls he grew up and went to school with.
