Description
Thomas Sappington House Museum, Crestwood Missouri, April 4th, 2023.Not really something I would normally photograph, but this was on my list of places to visit.
The house isn't in Sappington, but it is on Sappington Road.
I got the following from the St. Louis Community Guide.
The Sappingtons were friends of Daniel Boone in Kentucky and followed him to the St. Louis area in 1804, the same year Lewis and Clark set out on their exploration of the Louisiana Purchase. When Thomas Sappington married Mary Ann Kinkead in 1808, he went to Kentucky for plans for the house. The house was built in 1808 with the help of slave labor. It is thought to be the oldest brick house in St. Louis County. After the last Sappington left the house in 1877, a number of people owned it, but in 1884 a family named Nickles bought it. Their daughter Lily lived in the house until 1961 when the city of Crestwood purchased it.
