Description
For 's ID contest, featuring my starters. I found a shading technique that's MUCH easier than what I've been doing before, though I still like the look of the previous one. And I had to use hue/saturation five million times to get it so vivid lol.I changed the tail of the grass one cuz it was too distracting. And I'm really falling in love with the water one...

Excellent! Now all the water starter needs is a fedora.

For this one, I had two layers--one on top that had the base colors and one below that had the base colors in shadow. All I had to do was erase on the top layer so that the shadow colors showed through from the bottom. I of course had to go back in and add other colors, but this method makes the colors blend much more softly, which I always have trouble with!

hmm iv never tryed that, what i do is. i do all the color in diff layers depending on what goes in what order then on top of it i do a transparent layer of black with an opacity of 26ish. and another with white at the same transparency.

I learned the technique watching someone streaming live, it works quite well!
I've never heard of what you do (though I'm pretty new to digital coloring so I hardly know any techniques lol). I do have to say that you should try to use a color other than black... Using black for shadows is kind of a no-no in the art world, not because it's wrong, but because it makes really boring shadows lol. Try using deep dark purples, reds, and greens, they really make shadows look dynamic!
