Making up my own abbreviations herePK= Pokemon Knowledge, SS= Survival Skills, PP= Physical Prowess, RS= Resourcefulness
Reworked them cuz I want the style to reflect the early Capsule Monsters art--> link
A few tidbits--gave Gary his anime boots, and gave his red/blue ones to Cole. Unsure whether to use Gary's necklace design from the anime or the red/blue game art... conveniently his pose covers it up, so I don't have to decide yet. Cole's clothing is based on a character in that early art I linked. And it prolly annoys some people seeing "Ash" in "Red's" clothing, sorry about that, though this Ash/Red isn't quite gonna be the same as either of them so... I don't know what I'm saying haha.
Also, the stats aren't meant to rank each rookie, just show unique strengths and weaknesses.

I think its the z marks on ash's cheeks makes more identifiable to Ash. I have no idea what they will be considered. I am not sure if it would fit your style anyway

I thought it was either a birthmark or a scare and due to the strange world Pokemon scars can take different forms. It could be taken as an artist signature. From what I have seen it is not a usual Japanese trope.
Consider it open for theories and I think have one. Ash has shown to be able to do focus ball. What if hereditary one of his ancestors was an electric fighting Pokemon?

There is some charm on the old designs indeed, and I love your representation and determination on making em' unique characters! also their stances are very pokemon like so it's quite legit!

I've actually always liked the sound of Capsule Monsters better than Pokemon (I didn't know CapuMon was an additional prototype name until later). I'm extremely tempted to at least call the Pokeballs "Monster Balls" in my comic, cuz it just sounds so much cooler, but I wonder if people would be turned off by that and/or snicker for the same reason people snicker at Dragonballs. I avoided having to use the word Pokemon, Pokeballs, or any of the like in these first few pages cuz I wasn't sure I wanted to call them that... So I'd like to know what you'd think NkoGnZ, about using alternate terms? Would it be too weird?
Anyway, you think their poses are Pokemon-esque? That's relieving to me, cuz I wanted to give them more action-y poses, like the battle poses you see when you face a foe in the games, but decided against it cuz that would alter their standard standing proportions, which I really need for reference!

Hehe, it is pokemon-esque because some stances loos a lot like those in the later pokemon games like Diamond and Pearl, Ruby n' Sapphire and the remakes of the first games... so that would explain, I assume you didn't play most of em' but in a certain way you got the style right! Have a mindblown there lol!

And did you know? Monster Ball it's actually how the japanese call the pokeballs in there, so no biggie there!
And hey, it's your comic, and considering people were enjoying so far (Myself included!) even with your own characters (you see, that's a touchy subject right there!) I don't see why there would be a problem by changing some things, that's what every artist does and what makes their comics or manga special! They give em' a personal touch that distinguish it, in fact the pokemon main manga it's quite the deal and fan favorite because of its crazy and radical ideas and takes of the pokemon world (some Evil Gym Leaders and Elite 4 against humans? Madness yet cool!)
Oh boy, I went Prof. Oak all there again with my talking... anyway feel free to do it, that's why were interested in this comic, to see what you can do, offer to this universe! That would explain why were eager for more of this interesting take on the pokemans or... capumons!

Yeah, I only recently heard the term "Monster Ball" when I looked up a video to listen to the Japanese opening for Pokemon actually, and then let the episode run and saw the characters saying it. Sounds way cooler!
Thanks for your advice man, I really wanna use CapuMon/Capsule Monsters/Monsters instead of Pokemon, and I was afraid people would think I'm trying to be... something. And oh well, some may have an issue with it, but some may like it, and I know I'll love it so I'm just gonna do it

Yeah, Bret and Lorin are OCs I'd made as a kid to account for the two un-shown Pallet rookies. If they look like anyone from the series, it's coincidental

I definitely would've had more interest in the anime if the main character was more akin to Red from the manga (and/or game).
