It's such a shame that every MEC troopers must suffer from this 'sacrifice'.

As one of my soldiers baerly survived one mission after he recoveret I made him Mec trooper thinking that hes pody had burn by plasma fire 90%,
And he was burning for revenge.

At first i didnt even bother with MEC, because even thinking about "augmentation" and it's aftermath made me sick.Β

But if you think about it, it gives the soldier chance to outlive many of his/her comrades, plus "Base Augments" (read cybernetic limbs) are just that bad (low agility, fragile, etc.) because they were made in a rush (you know,Β war and stuff). After the war scientists can create better (probaly even better than natural/organic)Β cybernetic limbs.

And there is meld thingy which helps a lot in things like replacing some organic tissue(s).

It's only low-tech cybernetics is creepy and horrible.

Still dont like MEC's but now just because i am hardly understand how to use them (properly).

No. If you repeatedly say you'll sacrifice anything to fight back, that means you mean literally anything.

With that being said, I doubt they'd be awake for the operation, what with general anesthesia being an available technology.

Also, I've seen a bunch of comments about her not being able to have a baby; I assume that everyone is thinking about the mechanical bits that go around the crotch. I disagree with this, however, as MEC Troopers can be seen eating, meaning they probably have a full digestive tract. I believe that the crotch plating is nothing more than a cradle, and all of the reproductive and digestive organs remain intact.

Exactly. I don't see it as *that* different from cyberware in other futuristic settings. I'd be a lot more hesitant about the psychic powers and gene mods.

In the context of the game, I'd always assumed that being explicitly willing to undergo the procedure - and psychologically capable of dealing with such changed circumstances - was part of the candidate screening process. I mean, hiring a soldier costs half as much as a next-generation fighter jet. Comparing it to the price of an F-22 Raptor (somewhere near $400+ million each), each soldier costs a bit more than $200 million US to hire. Even assuming a disturbingly high percentage of life insurance payouts, that sort of cash would easily let them A) pay the troops extremely well, and B) be very selective in hiring.

Not that the gene mods are really that much less invasive:

"Your orders are to report to Medical to have another heart implanted and start growing electrical skin. We're considering issuing you new eyes as well."

Such is the cost of being able to punch people through walls.

Pretty sure nobody cares about the small things when they could wade across battlefield delivering rocket assisted justice to one aliens at a time.

Its really sad once you think about it. The only thing MEC troopers can really feel anymore is pain from getting shot at. Not to mention the way they sound when you hear them talk, like they know they are more machine than human now and start to act like soulless machines as well.

Well, ideally the lab outfitted them with tactile input on their "casual" limbs, what with having that whole neuro-interface thing going.
But then again, I'm already surprised that Vahlen/Shen thought of casual limbs in the first place. >_>

...frankly, I'm not even sure they can feel pain, at least not from the non-fleshy parts. Would be somewhat of a oversight.

Now that pregnancy part... yeah, good luck with that.

Well im just considering that its a small military organization with limited resources, so they would probably go for functionality and not waste time on the luxury of trying to make the prosthetic limbs feel things. Because i mean the planet is being invaded by hostile aliens so i think that making prosthetic limbs able to feel things would be a very low priority.

Yeah, I suspect "quality of life" isn't all that high on the priority list of XCOM currently. Maybe after it's all over... >_>
