MY gosh. I can't believe I'm finally done with this. x_x This... is the reason for my massive art block.

This piece was painted for my friend's newborn baby girl. He had asked me to draw something for her several months ago, before she was born and 6 months later, I finally got the nerve to finish it.

Given the color scheme to her room, which is predominantly black and white with one wall of green, I could do anything I wanted. And that's when I hit a wall. I knew I wanted a jungle/forest scene, but I didn't know what kind of creatures I should have in there. I settled on the ring-tailed lemur because I thought it could be a nice touch with the black and white wall. But, I don't think ring-tailed lemurs are particularly cute and all I could think about was, " The baby is going to be afraid of looking into the lemur's yellow eyes! AH!" So I tried to make the lemur cute, but now I think it looks like a cat. *sigh* I also wanted the composition to be interesting, but simple and not busy. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

ANYWAY, long story short, I learned a lot while working on this painting. I learned how to make my own custom brushes, use the smudge tool for blending, and paint fur.

Boy, am I glad I can say that it's done (even if I have the urge to continue adding more things to it... must walk away). I hope the parents approve.
