Description
So here it is!! My refence sheet for Rooty the Hazard. More references can be found in my gallery and my scrapbook.Hope it'll be of good use for future commissions/art trades/etc.

She's very cute! I really like the color of her fur, and the way you did her ears is very nice. She seems like an entertaining character, it's good that you didn't add anything to her that is too special (Like super powers) but she's also not to plain.
I'm happy that you specified what sort of hedgehog she is, it dose add some to her interest. But of course, being a hedgehog of any kind bumps down creativity points. You probably have already seen the thousands of other hedgehogs around here. So this would be my only complained about her, everything else is very interesting and fun!
I often suggest using a tenrec [link] to replace hedgehogs, as they are very similar in look making it easy to change, but are not the same animal. You don't really need to change her, but if you do that is what i would suggest!

You have a point about too many hedgehogs... What else to expect from a game who's main character is a hedgehog. But I think that doesn't justify changing the species. I made her a hedgehog, because I like the style of spines. A different animal, even if it has spines, too, should get a different 'hair style' (e.g. when doing a porcupine, I would make a lot of smaller quills).
Changing a character just because the species is overused is kinda witless. It's more of a challenge to make the character stand out of those many other similar characters.
A tenrec is a nice alternative, but something different, after all. If I want to make a tenrec, I'll do one. But Rooty will most likely stay a hedgehog

That is fine, I was only making a suggestion if you wanted to change her. Not that you should change her. I would say making a hedgehog stand out if very hard though, just saying.
Also, the Tenrecs spines are pretty much the same as a hedgehog (At least some of them are, that is only one kind i showed you) So don't use that as an excuse, you don't need any excuse to say you like her how she is and don't want tot change her!

I still would try to make a tenrec look kinda different (e.g. give them much shorter spines), just because it's a different species... and if she still looks like a hedgehog, what's the point?

I don't think i would change the spines for then since Hedgehogs have all different kinds too, I would just change the tail around a bit since they have slightly longer tails.
But whatever, I wasn't really saying you should change her, just saying that I know some people who come to Sonic aid probably are looking to change the character, so I suggested it in case you where one of the people looking for that.

Rooty the Hazard...That name has a certain dynamic sound to it, doesn't it?
I'm liking her personality so far. I can see that she is intelligent, clever, risky, perky, funky, impatient, and likes to make things "go boom." (That made me laugh). It definitely explains the "Hazard" in her title.
But I think you could probably develop her character a bit more. Here are some questions I had while reading:
Is she girly? or a tomboy?
Is she on the good side, the neutral side, or the 'I do want I want side'?
In stressful situations, is she most likely to anylyze (Tails), lose her temper (Blaze/knuckles), Sulk and angst (shadow) or whine/cry (Amy/cream) or is it a combination of a few traits like sonic?
Now for her design.
I'm sure you already know this, but there are TONS of hedgehog fan characters in the world.
The problem is that Rooty has Very typical hedgehog traits (like the Amy/shadow hybrid quills and the eyes), it will be hard to to change her species without completely losing her basic appearance.
But I think because it's Rooty the Hazard and not Rooty the hedgehog, it isn't SUCH a big deal that she is a hedgehog. A minor detail. (like how Amy Rose is a hedgehog).
I like the first outfit and star symbol you gave her. It matches her Star shaped quillstyle.
The second one has a sonic riders feel to it.
Are Clothes optional for Rooty, like with Sally?
I won't say anyhing about the colors for the third example since its not compplete yet, but beware of "Amy shoes" with the stripe going down them. That is what most Female fan characters tend to have on their shoes. (just like most males have a sonic/tails variation of the shoes.)
What you did with the first and second pair of shoes was perfect! Other things on the shoes that makes me NOT associate them with Amy's shoes.
I think Ms. Rooty is pretty much complete as far as her overall concept goes. ^_^

Oh, I already developed her character a bit more.... I just can't put everything into the reference, because it would be way too much... I reduced it to waht is necessary to get her overall personality to draw her properly (for ATs and so on).
She's definitively more tomboy. She chooses clothing she can move in properly (or, in most cases, no clothing). She's on the "I do what I want' side xD with a slight tendancy to good. She would most likely throw over all previous plans if she decides to help out someone. As for her attitude, she's rather rough and rude, so if she would raise a chao (*hints at Bass*) it would most likely turn Dark~
In stressful situations... Depends on the situation, but she would go all out, more or less ignoring the danger and enjoying the action. As for her star pendant, I decided an a little story.... For her, that star symbolizes the star showing her way home. So as long as she has that star with her, she also has her home with her. Thus she isn't afraid to face the unknown, as she doesn't have to be afraid not to win home

Well, the colors for the third outfit are more or less decided, I just had been too lazy to update the picture up until now... D: The only change is that the shoes aren't grey but black.
I noticed the similarity, but I thought it would be enough that Amy wears boots while she has regular shoes... Thanks for your opinion, I'll try to change the pattern a bit =)
