Part of the reason why I made Carl a trans man is that I feel they are severely underrepresented in media. Sure, there have been attempts in recent years to give them more of a presence in TV and film, but I feel they're still largely ignored. Transphobes still act like the only trans people are transwomen, completely ignoring transmen and trans-enbies. And while not being victimized isn't a bad thing, being ignored and erased is still hurtful.
I thought I'd draw something similar happening with Carl. Ever since I debuted him, I've had a feeling Izzy would be a mildly transphobic character. She's very elitist (not quite to the point of being a TERF, as she's not a radical feminist), and probably wouldn't consider an AMAB person to be a "true" woman. She's decided to express this towards Carl, who is openly transgender. What she doesn't understand is that Carl is AFAB. So her intent to make him feel unfeminine holds little water as he's no longer trying to be feminine. Still, he's not going to correct her; just pretend like she's made a difference and continue with his life.
