The 1950s are a strange time. In media, the 50s treated themselves like this wholesome, heartwarming time in American history. Meanwhile, behind that façade, the 50s were a really repressive time, full of heteronormativity, strict gender roles, poor race relations, and fear mongering, all in an attempt to show that capitalism was better than communism. Well, maybe someday, we'll be able to create a time that the 50s believed themselves to be...
I thought it would be funny to depict Waluigi and Daisy as a 50s couple in a TV sitcom. It just seemed so opposed to their actual characterization. Making Waluigi a levelheaded businessman and Daisy a submissive housewife just seemed so out-of-character for both of them that I couldn't resist.  I figured Waluigi's new golf outfit would work well for 50s Waluigi. I also gave him glasses, inspired by Mystar21 's design for Professor Waluigi . As for Daisy, I didn't feel like any of her existing outfits screamed "50s housewife" to me, so I made a dress for her based on this one , though modified slightly to give it more of Daisy aesthetic (i.e. yellow and flowers). I also thought giving her Yoshi oven mitts would complete the look. And to complete the drawing, I added a black & white filter, cropped it to a period-appropriate screen ratio, and added a TV effect.
