Sonic Nexus - Isle of Angels: Oblation of Reparation

OK, so this pic is gonna take some explaining. If you don't like long explanations, turn back now.

So, FYI - Sonic Nexus is my continuation of Sonic SatAM, set a few years after the end of Season 2 where the Freedom Fighters have already dealt with Naugus. Snively (who had emerged as the new main villain in the very last episode) is now in competition with his uncle Robotnik, and they try to outdo each other in their attempts to take out Sonic and his people.

Anyway, in SatAM we never had a chance to meet any of the Echidnas. And thanks to a certain Kenders (Ken-Pen), Shade and the Dark Brotherhood from the DS game will never again see the light of day in any official capacity. What a waste!
With that said, that's where THIS story comes in. And goes as follows...

Living on Angel Island from almost the "Dawn of Time" the Echidnas were protected not only by the isolation of the Island but by a benevolent Water Spirit they called Chaos. After several generations the Echidnas started thinking of Chaos as a god and started worshiping it.
One day, to the Echidnas' shock, they are confronted with the existence of ANOTHER floating island (as seen in SatAM). Having become over-privileged and pompous, the Echidnas -led by Pachacamac- believe they alone deserve to dwell aloft and decide to attack the inhabitants of the other island "in order to send them to the earth below."

The island -called Tempus- is inhabited by a large tribe of owls who, as it turns out, keep safe the Time Stones (colored) and the primeval Stone of Time (gray). Being mostly pacifists, the owls are driven from the island; some are killed but the majority are literally scattered to the wind. The Elder sends his kin away with the colored Time Stones by opening a Portal Ring to Little Planet.

Knowing the Stone of Time should never be removed from Tempus Island, he breaks it in half in order to keep their attackers from using it. Soon after this the Elder is killed but because of his brave sacrifice, he becomes the spirit guardian of the now-divided Time Stone.

Side Note: The gems on the Stone of Time were originally clear but became red in reaction to the Elders death, as seen here: LINK The Time Stones sent to Little Planet were created/birthed from it. This means the colored Time Stones are not nearly as old as the gray Time Stone.

Anyway, satisfied with their victory, the Echidnas try to annex Tempus Island to Angel Island before it flies away. The Elder owl's spirit however, unleashes several stone griffins (yes, he can do this now) to thwart their ambitions and Tempus flies free and floats off, never go be seen by Echidna eyes again.

Feeling robbed, Pachacamac leads his warriors back to their city, not knowing he's leading them right to destruction. Having seen the atrocities committed by his wards, an enraged Chaos transforms and begins wiping out the Echidnas as punishment. Tikal, who had befriend Chaos at the Water Temple, ultimately sacrifices herself to quell his rage and satiate his wrath.

With the Echidna population going from several hundred to only a few dozen, one tribe (whose members did NOT participate in the massacre) is chosen by Tikhaos to guard the Water Temple and the Master Emerald therein.

Fast forward a few generations, and this Guardian Tribe has finally beget the one and only Knuckles! He is now the one who stands by the Master Emerald, day in & day out. He often converses with Tikal (as Chaos is sleeping), tends to the Chao in the nearby garden and has become familiar with the feel of Chaos' aura.

Knuckles is often visited by JuLizu, who is his betrothed; she has two sisters, LeInda and Shayde. Unfortunately, these two are conniving schemers! They are dissatisfied with the status quo and hate the fact that only ONE tribe of Echidnas (which they were not born into) has the privilege of communing with Chaos. That's when they decide they MUST come up with a way to get back on Chaos' good side.

After a lot of thought, and some research into their past, the two decide the best way to get back into their god's good graces is to offer him an outstanding sacrifice. An oblation without peer - a real one-of-a-kind! And who might THAT be? I think you can guess.
