This can apply to any type of fandom: Whether it’s a franchise, a ship, or even a character. Anti-fanbrats (or whatever they are called) are no better. Fanbrats are like wolves in sheep’s clothing or attention-whores who make a fashion statement to “stand out”. Now, as someone who hates a particular character with every fiber of my being, I can honestly say that no one is immune. Even the most rational fan can become rabid at any minute if one tiny button is pushed. That’s what passion is all about, really. But having the maturity and ability to control oneself can really go a long way. I’ve learned that while I may hate this character and do not understand how they actually have a fanbase, I realize (some) of the people that like them are just that - people. So, no matter how much I want to throw a tantrum, I don’t explode at anyone. At least, I try not to. I don’t suppress my emotions towards them but I wouldn’t be as merciless to their fans, either. A fictional character cannot be truly hurt; real people can and I do not like hurting people. On the flip side, when people hate the ship or character I love, I try my damnedest to keep the emotions inside. I pretty much just end up crying instead of ranting and raving. I have been pushing myself, as of late to bite my tongue when I want to curse someone out for hating something I love and I just virtually walk away. I am impulsive so as one might think, it’s a challenge. It’s one of the toughest things you can do as a person. Restraint is not, by any means, easy. But it shows just how much strength you truly have.

There are a number of fandoms people call cancerous that are filled with fanbrats and deviants and whatever else. But the thing is, the fanbrats come equipped with these giant microphones whereas the more meek fans do not. It sucks that these so-called “fans” are loud and in your face but they do not make up the fanbase as a whole nor are they the icon of it. Ignore them at all costs if you cannot contain your composure. Ignoring the entire fanbase does not help, either. You would be ignoring potential friendships and chances of enrichment in your life. If you are not willing to sift through the dirt to find worthy gems, then you have no one to blame but you and your laziness. There’s riches to be found in nearly all fandoms if you look hard enough.

The point is, don’t ever judge an entire fandom by it’s fanbrats or, In other words, . I don’t care how many crazies you’ve come across, there is always something good about a fandom IF the franchise/ship/character/etc itself is worthy of its fanbase. The thing is, what is good or bad is subjective. And just because a fandom has many fanbrats does not mean it is cancer. Once the cancer is removed from the human body, it will survive another day, the timer ticking toward death stops. Sadly, cancer can come back but there is always hope. But as I said before, a few fanbrats does not make a fandom cancerous. Just because you catch a cold does not make you the cold, right? Fanbrats are like a cold - they are hard to get rid of. If a fandom had little to no fanbrats, that means the franchise is pretty healthy. But sadly, even really good fandoms have poor immune systems and get sick easily. It’s not the franchise’s fault, nor the fandom’s fault. Colds naturally come and go. You just have to apply medicine diligently ‘til it subsides - maturity is pretty much the best meds out there, my friends. It really can do wonders to any fandom. It might only cure a portion of the body until it gets better but soon enough, if never left to its own devices, it will heal.
