Description “Nala! Why won’t you see he’s becoming Scar! I can’t have him around!”
“He is your son, Simba! You have raised him since he was a child. He is your son.
“No...he’s Scar! He’s the child of that wicked lioness that continues to kill in his name! He is pure evil like the both of them!”
“Simba! How coul-“

Kion slumped against the side of the rock’s surface as his claws dug into the ground and angry, hurt tears brimmed his eyes as he continued to listen to his parents' argument. Father wants to send me away. A heaviness sunk into his chest, lodging it’s way in a horrible, guilty place near his heart. He had gone to find his father to attempt to apologize for what he had done earlier but before he made his entrance he noticed Simba speaking rather angrily to his mother; normally he would sulk away to brood until his father was free, but this time something compelled him to stay and listen. Gritting his teeth, Kion pushed himself off the wall and stormed away to wherever his paws took him.

The moon had fully emerged by the time Kion finally looked up to see where he was. Somehow, he found himself in the gorge where his grandfather died many years ago and thus starting an era of constant pain and death for years to come. With no intent on returning home, Kion continued to wallow in self-pity as he made his way to where his father had escaped from the hyenas all the while noticing with uneasy calmness as the abyssal darkness grew around him.

At the ledge of the cliff, Kion mindlessly tossed pebbles into the enormous thorn bush below. As a cub, Simba often warned against him and Kiara from going near the edge lest they fall into it. Did he love me then? He shook his head, casting his intrusive thoughts away yet it came back with even more questions. Did he ever consider me as his son? Did he always think I’m evil? Am I becoming Scar? As much as he would’ve liked to say he wasn’t, a small part of him knew there was a seed of jealousy and hatred for his sister that was planted there by Zira during their secret meetings. Mind now clearer than it had been hours previously Kion begun to see the reasoning for his father’s paranoia.

Claws out, spittle flying, hatred running wild. Kion was no longer the lion anyone could recognize. He lashed out and left a long, deep gash in his father’s neck. What was their fight about again? Did it matter? Simba was there denying him rights he’d give to his precious princess Kiara. He needs to be taught a lesson. He won’t be the second best child.

As if spurred by the great spirits above, Kion sped away from the gorge to the borders of the Pridelands, to the world outside as his thoughts run amok in a wild frenzy. He’s right. I am turning into Scar. I’m going to hurt someone. Tears again stung the corners of his eyes as he pushed himself the run even faster. Kiara. Dad. Mom. I’m going to kill them. I will. I couldn’t stop today. Will I tomorrow? I need to go. Above the sound of wings fell deaf on his ears. I need to leave. I’m Scar. I’m Scar. I’m-
“Kion!”
Still running, the adolescent spared moments glance up to where he spotted the aging majordomo barely keeping up with him in the sky.
“Young Sire, please stop! I’m too old for this.”
Hesitantly, his paws slowed to a fast trot to allow the bird to land on his shoulder so he may give out whatever earful message he or Simba wanted to give him, however, the bird said nothing just admiring the skies above as he found his breath.

“Your grandfather, Mufasa, is up there you know. He watches us and guides us.”
“I guess he is. I haven’t heard much from him lately...probably because...”
“You’re Scar?”
“How-"
“Talk of the pride what you did today. Much talk of it.”
“Oh.”
Kion hadn’t taken much consideration that his actions would’ve been seen by most of the pride and those weren’t there would’ve been alerted to about it immediately. More of a reason to leave. But he couldn’t do that with his father’s majordomo sitting snuggly into his mane, though he couldn’t fault the bird for not leaving on his own, his aging bones were probably chilled from the night air.
“Zazu, I’d hate to be rude but can you leave now? I’m quite busy.”
“Busy with what, young sire?”
“Well can’t you see?”
“I can’t see much of anything nowadays, your majesty, but what I do see is a young, troubled prince walking the opposite direction from home in the middle of a rather cold night.”
“Well, you’re right. I am walking away. You should head off home, Zazu.”
An indifferent “hmph” was all his response.

The duo continued to walk deeper into the night in heavy silence that made Kion want nothing more than the bird to start his usual unstoppable chatter. As if having read his mind Zazu shuffled his way off Kion’s shoulder and onto his path.
“Tell me what’s wrong, child. You’re quite obviously hurting and it’s not only about what’s been said.”
Growing up, Kion hadn’t been close to the aging hornbill, at least never close enough to share personal woes, but who was here for him to talk to now? He was alone.
“Well...I-I went apologize to dad after calming down but I...he. Dad. Mom...they. He wants to.”
Kion stumbled over the words trying to find a way to repeat what his father had yelled at his mother without making it seem real, trying to find a way to make it a silly thing he overreacted to. But he couldn’t.
“Simba wants to exile you. Yes, I’ve heard. Wasn’t meant for you to hear, to mind you, but the old lug can’t control his temper much like his father.”
The lion fell onto his rump in defeat with his head hanging low, attempting to not looking at the bird before him lest he see that Zazu agreed with the decision.
“Kion, look at me now, there we go.”
Zazu’s wing gently raised the price's chin up all the while smiling sympathetically, comforting Kion enough to lift his tearful gaze to meet his own.
“I don’t think you deserve to be banished, not a fair judgment if I do say so myself. Now listen here, young sire, your father is deeply traumatized by that evil, old thing and while I can see why he would find resemblances between you and your uncle, you are not him. Not by a long shot. You have compassion in your heart. I know this because you are walking away now and why? Because you believe you might hurt your family? You are taking it upon yourself to protect them at the cost of losing everything you know.”
Sitting up to look at the home he’d known his whole life, Kion felt a sense of understanding of what had been said. Perhaps Zazu was right. He’s not Scar. He’s is risking to lose everything to protect his family. Scar didn't do that. Scar stayed and let his wounds fester until he lost himself in madness. He won't.
“You understand now? You are not him. You love too much to hate the way the Dark King did. Now, young sire, if you’re done brooding lets go back home."
“No, I can't, Zazu. You may be right but the reason why Scar became bitter was that he was stuck here not learning to appreciate what he had. I won’t be like that. I need to leave. I promise I’ll come back. I just-"
“No need to explain, your majesty. I’ve seen too many mistakes in the making. I’ve helped with what I can but if this is what you wish.”
With great care, Kion bent down to nuzzle the majordomo in thanks.
“You lions with your physical affections.” Zazu jokingly huffed as he draped his wing over Kion’s snout. He had always loved the cubs he’s helped raise and Kion had especially been his favourite. Not as hard to keep track of unlike his parents and sibling although he wasn’t fond how Kion recklessly threw himself at danger.
“I’d hate to ask more of you, Zazu, but will you tell everyone I love them and that I’m deeply sorry; that one day I’ll come home but not until I’m better?”
“Of course, young sire.”
After a heart-felt goodbye, the two solemnly left each other’s presence and continued their destination, wondering what the future had in store.
