Description
It was years after the fiasco with Merida and the issue with restoring her mother's humanity. To forge new alliances, her parents invited the King and Queen of Solaris to DunBroch along with their son and daughter (Elinor had learned her lesson from last time to know better than to try and force her daughter into marriage, but that didn't mean she didn't at least have SOME hope of the possibility sparks would fly). Despite Merida's protests, Elinor insisted on her at least making an effort to look presentable to make a good first impression at the ball held in honor of their visitors. And it was love at first sight, though not in the way either kingdom had expected.
At first, Merida had been worried she would be forced to get along with a prince and princess that would, too, attempt to force her into the role of what everyone expected her to be as the crown princess and a lady (once again, her mother learned the lesson that Merida could not be tamed, but she did stress that she needed to learn responsibility to reign), but she was more than shocked to find both young royals were anything but prissy and only about manners and proper behavior. Though polite and proper, they were also warriors who had both won many victories in battle for their kingdom, and while Merida found she enjoys sparring with Prince Damian, she's more drawn to his sister Hestia who though she does lectures Merida on proper etiquette, is also found of talking about battle strategy aside from being the most beautiful woman she'd yet to meet.
When the night comes for the ball, Merida is left speechless by the sight of Hestia across the ballroom, and subconsciously promises herself she will win her heart someday, unaware the Solaris Princess is just as starstruck.
-------
Hestia and Damian come from a kingdom where males and females have equal rights, and so none of what Merida does is odd to either them even if odd to everyone else in DunBroch. Though Hestia is respectful and polite, charming even due to years of tutoring in gaining allies. Many of her thoughts are in strategy, even in making friends or getting one to fall in love with her since she is unused to the concept (she was raised in battle strategy and social etiquette, but she finds battle easier to navigate than social situations) so she thinks of it all as a game of strategy in getting people to like her as well as figuring out their tics and what they like and don't based on their body language. Despite being soft-spoken, when she is made furious, she is a storm in human form, ready to cut down any who get in her path, and afterwards when they are married, Hestia is one of the very few people who can actually convince Merida to dress proper for special events (they compromise; Merida wears the uncomfortable dress, corset, hair done, the whole shebang (since Hestia is more than used to dealing with her own unruly hair, Merida's curls are no match for her) for at least one whole hour before she can go change, and they'll go exploring the next morning wherever Merida wants to go). If anyone has any objections to their marriage, they don't say (because, I mean, would you say anything to two badass lesbians who can and will kick your ass across the land?), and threats are easier to deal with under their rule.
